They also have a liquor store attached. U can buy beer, wine, cigs, liquor but NO LOTTERY! WTF? Gambling is a sin but so are all of the above and all are loved disproportionally by the blue collars. Imagine the instant revenue increase for the giant retailer. There has to be one old school exec at the top (from the old Sam Walton days) who has his foot on the brake. Once he goes expect a revenue and associated stock mkt surge...

The fact that they don't sell lottery tickets may have nothing to do at all with religion.

I am not a religious man and I don't like seeing some people buying lotto tickets. There are some very poor people that spend tons of cash on the lotto.

Yet, no one holds a gun to their heads and forces them to buy lottery tickets.
That being said, I'd rather see people buying lottery tickets than tobacco products.

Do the stores make any money from the lottery? I thought they put it in the store as a hook to get people in to the store to buy other stuff.

The store that sells a winning ticket, does get a kick back bonus. The bigger the winnings, the bigger the bonus.

That may be true but it doesn't put food on the table, cloths on the backs of these fucking idiots children, or pay the electric, water and rent.

The reality is that others suffer from the bad decisions of stupid people.

Oldfart,

I agree with everything that you said other than the fact that you give curious george way to much credit. As much as I dislike gw, and it would be real easy to blame him for the mess were in today. The reality is both sides are selling you and I out to the highest bidder.

Folks are going to get their gambling fix somewhere, there's a big war going on in Alabama right now over these stupid bingo/slot machines. Thing is, there are Indian casinos everywhere and folks will go there, it's lost revenue for the State and Alabama is broke right now. We don't have a lottery so people just go to Georgia and Florida along with money that should have been spent here. Alabama needs a lottery, the only thing that it would change is folks would throw their money away in state instead of out of state. I see nothing wrong with spending money on it, it's your money. If someones parents are that bad that they would make their kids suffer or do without, it won't be because of a lottery, there are too many other ways they can waste money, you can't babysit people.

Can't believe someone brought Bush into this thread, that's comedy gold...
