Not sure if I posted this before, probably did but I just figured out how to get a great drum sound. This is called "Weird Tuesday" because, well it's weird and was written on a Tuesday.
As a new guitar player I wanted to see what I could do, and just invent some chords and some ridiculous lead stuff. I'm sure they are called something but I have no clue. Brian "Borg" May would know I'm sure. And any real guitar players here. Anyway I was just happy with this punchy drum sound. https://soundcloud.com/russ-e-gregory/weird-tuesday

I wish I could make it sound as clean and punchy as this. Of course I am using distorted guitars so perhaps it's not possible but this is the goal.

What did you do to get the drum sound you wanted?

Two things. 1. A free VST called Head Crusher. It is amazing. And 2. Multi Channel Compressor. Got rid of everything else. So it's just those two things plus EZ Drummer with the "Metal" kit. I use the Metal kit for everything, I just like how it sounds. I could easily play these parts but there is no way in hell I could get as good a sound with a real kit. Level is -6 db. at peaks. Everything else is -18db. which is the same as 0db. in analog.

Those chords that begin around 1:10 are 9ths, I think. I'd have to play along to check my suspicion, but I'm about 90% sure....

Is the main riff at the beginning an E major followed by an F major? Quite cool. Flamenco-ish.

If you are refering to mine I have no clue. The reason Its titled "weird" is I just made them up. I figured they might be real but Its above my education level.

Any chord is "real." The trick is to use ones which are "real good." grin
