Took the wife to the hospital at 5:15 for aortic valve replacement surgery. Now have about 6 more hours of waiting until she's in recovery. Helpless times like this can really humble a guy..........

Yes, humbling to say the least. My Dad had a heart procedure last year and we were so grateful it was caught before it would of caused a heart attack.

Positive thoughts to your Wife, you and the rest of your family.

Good luck to Mrs. Applebro. Hang in there, Applebro. It sucks not having any control, and I think that is what bugs us the most in these types of situations.

Thanks for letting me vent guys!

Surgery went really well, but it's taken longer than normal to come out of sedation. Doctor isn't overly worried, though, and said it could be another hour or two before the breathing tube comes out.

Actually some of the discussions on here about blood thinners made us do some extra research and decide on a tissue valve instead of a mechanical valve. The downsides of the blood thinners outweighed the positive of the mechanical valve never needing replacement!

You have been doing research! You both will get better sleep with the porcine valve. The mechanical ones take some getting used to, sound wise.

Hope she recovers quickly and you guys can get back to the orchard!

Yesterday had a couple of roller coaster rides, that's for sure.

Every time that they turned down the air volume on the breathing tube she wasn't able to take over on her own. It was several hours past their target point, and her surgeon came back before leaving for the night. He decided that removing it would "force" her into breathing, so they went ahead and did it and it worked great.

They've had a little bit of problems with keeping her blood pressure up but nothing too alarming.

When she came to and was able to understand what we were saying to her and respond with hand squeezes and such, I whispered to her that at that particular moment she was the absolute most beautiful thing I've ever laid my eyes on, and it was 1000% true.......
