Gotta admit, the new one is worthy. Not perfect, worthy. And sorry, Team Green, prolly better than the Chickenfoot III effort. If you're into that sort of stuff, it's worth a listen.

It exceeded my expectations. They're getting crap from some about reviving some previously unreleased stuff, but that is exactly what I've been hoping for; to get back to old-school Van Halen music. Not much "filler" on this album either, every song brings something to the table. There are times when everything comes together; when Dave is spot-on and those trademark background harmonies sound like they did in the late 70's early 80's. Is the album earth-shattering? Probably not, but this Van Halen fan can't stop listening to it.

Glad to hear that. I'll have to buy the CD. And yes, people still buy CDs. I only listen to music in my car, and I don't want to fumble around with an iPod playlist while I drive. I'll toss in a CD and usually listen to it for a week or so til I get tired of it. Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power hasn't left my CD player for a couple weeks now.

My buddy and I were thinking about going to VH when they come to Denver. Tickets seem a little steep to me, I can feel old and sad for far less than $100.00.

I have to say that after listening to the first song they released I was less than impressed.
But I did listen to a few more tracks and they have some good stuff on there.

I still would listen to the Van Halen I thru 1984 discs all day before this one but it isn't bad.
Has a bit of the old style and groove.

Was listening this morning to XM Classic Rewind, and they played 'Feel Your Love Tonight' and it just reminded me just how good that original VH stuff was. Looking forward to listening to the new DLR tunes.

You know, if you go through any of the original VH with DLR albums, other than than the first, there's always a couple songs on there where you wondered what they were trying to pull off. Some albums more of that, some less. (Kind of true of most bands' efforts most of the time) That's true here. It's also true that DLR doesn't have the pipes he had then, but his style was pretty idiosyncratic and that still comes through.

I've definitely heard more tired efforts at reclaiming the past, and there's a fair dose of Eddie doing what he does best and doing it pretty well. Which is sort of what it's all about anyway. It's all just for fun.

One of our local stations started playing Tattoo a few days ago, first time I heard it I told my son "Hey, that sorts sounds like Van Halen". SoundHounded it and confirmed.

Not a bad effort, but it'd be hard to live up to the very first stuff they ever did. Haven't listened to any of the rest of the new stuff but looking forward to it soon.

Very true, I always liked that they weren't afraid to take a chance with what they put out there.

In my opinion....and I actually sang lead in rock bands for 14 years.....DLR never had a great technical voice but that didn't matter because he had style and that fit the music.
There are many better singers but very few people with his personality and who could work the crowd like DLR and I doubt he has lost that talent.

I guess sometimes I just wish people that have had a great career would just let the past be and not try to reclaim it but that isn't really fair.
Just my own selfish nostalgia at work....lol.
Obviously those guys all love what they do and still wanna get out there an do it.

I don't know if they love what they do. A friend is a pretty stellar guitar player and has met a lot of these guys, including EVH, and Jeff Beck, and he was struck by how bitter a lot of them are, especially in light of the world open to them. Maybe it's all they know, and it pays pretty well to boot.

But they didn't embarrass themselves with this one.

Just finished listening to the whole thing. Pretty good, I think (esp. "Blood and Fire").

It seems to me that Eddie plays much different when he's playing stuff with DLRoth- it seems as though he is more aggressive with DLR than with Hager or anyone else.

I don't have a problem with the Hagar version of the band. We covered this awhile back. But it's a different personality, and that reflects Hagar. I think his production values and style are different (how could they not be?) from the original band, and he seems like a pretty forceful personality.

On the other hand, the original band gave us "Jump," so wtf do I know.

Don't judge the album by Tattoo. I'm only three songs into the album and it's the weakest of the bunch if you like old school VH.

^^^ This ^^^

Tattoo is, by far, the worst song of the lot. I guess the producers wanted something more "pop radio worthy" for the first release. Who knows, but it has a complete different feel from the rest of the album.

Might have to check it out. Never was big on Van Hager. Like DLR but he can get annoying at times.

I like all forms of VH & I like the fact that we're hearing a "revival" of sorts when it comes to VH v.1...But, I miss Anthony's background vocals on this new one.

However, I don't think it has anything on Chickenfoot; also, Jump kicked ass...Live.

Like I've always said...there's Silver-Linings in all of this.

Don't be surprised when you see a gathering of all these guys on the same stage...It's already out there.

Totally agree with DLR's lack of vocal superiority but ability as a front man. In concert, I thought he was the worst as far as just singing bits and pieces of the lyrics and leaving out whatever he didn't feel like singing ( second worse in this respect would probably be Vince Neil). However, that had virtually no effect on my enjoyment of the concert because I consider him to be the best and most charismatic front man I've ever seen. He just has a natural ability to work the crowd like no one else can. Just got the CD today, and they are coming to New Orleans this summer. I'll definitely take the wife, and probably force the kids to go too.

So, I look at the tour date for Oakland, and the opening band is Kool and the Gang. Really?

DLR was a better front man but Sammy was a better vocalist. I wish they could put egos aside and try to do "The Best of Both Worlds" tour again with both singers.

Good to hear. I'm thinking of buying on vinyl. They have a double Red Vinyl issue. I haven't bought a VH album since Diver Down--and even that one I didn't like that much.

Nothing wrong with buying CD's, same price nowadays as downloads but you get a hard copy back-up. Though, I'll admit I can be lazy and download a torrent in FLAC, WAVE, or AIFF if I really want an album.
