I cannot believe the senate put in all of that pork? Why would they do that?

I also wonder if they played politics with this crap and let the senators not up for election add in the pork?

Just a little swing trade. I bought SPY at the close yesterday for 111.16 and sold this morning at 114.18 right after the bill passed. It was a classic buy the rumor sell the news trade. Now it's back to 111.60. I don't think there will be any meaningful market reaction to the bailout until either it fails or succeeds and credit starts to loosen up.

They did that because a bunch of Representatives voted their consciences the first time, and historically the best way to get them to vote against their conscience is to put in pork that helps them get reelected.

Will the banks start lending the money or will they just invest it unti the market turns around before opening back up?

The Dow was up over 200 this morning and then started plunging when they passed this thing. Down 157.47. Coincidence?

Everyone needs to find out who attached the pork then do everything in your power to make sure they don't get re-elected.

that's how day trading makes money. On the margins.

Move a few pennies...out before the closing bell. These guys don't like to let money sit around all night.

but, you can see how people end up losing a lot of money. A trade costs $10-20??? Lots of people want to start with a $1000 and play the game. You have to have a big move just to break even with only $1000 in the game.

I'm definitely no expert (I know next to nothing) and really don't have the stomach for losing my money so i haven't dabbled. But, dabbling is a losing propisition IMO.

Well, I really didn't risk 50K like it sounds. I put that much up but it all wasn't at risk. The market on a given day will move 1% or so. With the shit that's going on now it might move 3%. I don't buy individual stocks. When you do that, you are risking the whole pile. I play the S&P 500 through an etf called Spiders. Tick sym SPY. So when I put up 50K, it's basically on 500 stocks. I time the market based on overall economic stats. It's easier and less risky than buying a single stock.
I had a hunch today and it payed off. I've had ones that haven't. I know you have friends that go to Vegas and all they talk about is their winnings. I don't know anybody that plays the slots in Vegas that has ever lost according to them.
Somehow the slots just happen to be the biggest house odds there. I wonder who's telling the truth.
I'm down about 7K for the year as it stands now but as a percentage I'm OK compared to some of the hedge funds. I just got a bit back today.

In a normal market, it's rarely risking the whole thing even just buying stocks. Few companies are here today gone tomorrow without some amount of warning.

Warren Buffet says you got to know when to cash out though. Sometimes, you throw good money after bad and that's when it hurts.
