Just curious what kind of strange creatures you may have in your backyard. I live in an area of Arizona that has some very unique wildlife. Some found nowhere else in the USA.

This is a Black-tailed Rattlesnake I saw on a mountain bike ride the other day. Beautiful colors. According to the internet, Arizona has 13 species of Rattlesnakes.

Post some pics or videos of something unique to your area.

Very cool.

I've only seen the rare Jackalope once in the early dawn hours....

A white deer was spotted not long ago. Apparently they're rare?

This bear was casually strolling along the road a little over a week ago. Then the other day a bald Eagle flew through my job site while getting chased by a crow. It’s amazing how big they are in comparison. Sorry for the shitty pic. I need a zoom lense for my cell phone.

Growing up in Los Angeles, I didn’t see much wildlife until I headed out into the Mojave Desert. I’m in the Seattle area for now.

For as cool as this thread topic is, everyone can agree that it's pretty much over once the Aussies start chiming in, right?

On topic: Japan has the tanuki (pronounced tah•new•key), which the Japanese refer to as a raccoon dog.

I've been lucky to see a few by my house in Trinidad. Sad that they are now endangered by the logging industry, but that is life.
The fisher (Pekania pennanti) and Humboldt marten (Martes caurina humboldtensis) are two mid-sized carnivores (“mesocarnivores”) in the weasel family, Mustelidae. The fisher in the Pacific states is a candidate for threatened or endangered status under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

I've seen quite a few up here in Norcal but never got close enough to identify them. That sound is one of the most intimidating sounds ever, but growing up in Pennsylvania at least they give you a warning unlike a copperhead. We would find a few every season at my grow in Humboldt, I would grab the dogs and run to the house. But my buisness partners felt different than me unfortunately. First time I saw one I had goosebumps for about an hour.

The deer around here are so domesticated they don’t even run when you walk up on them.

Headed to Walmart in Jasper, Tx. Later today. If I can remember to take some pics while shopping I’m sure I can come up with pic of some very unique creatures.

I live next a lake, and I take my dog down there most mornings for a walk….we seen all kinds of bird…sandhill cranes, geese, all kinds of ducks, red tail hawks, Ospreys, Mule deer, red fox, coyote, raccoons, bald eagles in the winter….this morning I saw a bunch of these bald faces vultures (not sure what their actual names are?) eating a dead fish…my dog wanted to play with them.

In the woods here in east Tennessee.
I've seen,
An occasional bobcat.
Fox.
Chipmunks.
Squirrels.
Possums.
Raccoons.
Woodchuck.
And last year entered the backyard bird count with 38 different types of birds at our feeders.
Not to mention the bald eagles, herons, ospreys, and other shorebirds down at the lake.

At our cabin in N.C.black bear are common, coming through the backyard.

I was trying to trap some squirrels but caught this river otter. There's several otters in the river that is near my house, but the strange thing is that the river is about 3/4 of a mile away with no creeks, streams or waterways in between.

Living in central Oklahoma we have all the usual prairie animals you’d expect (very similar to the list that Joey posted above!) along with white tail & mule dear, bobcat, several species of snake including the western diamondback rattler that is very common in the west side of our state, and I routinely see fairly good sized rattlers out at one of my favorite MTB loops near Watonga Ok. I came upon this 3.5-4 footer lying in the brush along the trail last summer (he IS in the bottom pic!) and then I watched him cross the trail before I finished up my loop!
Of course much of the wildlife immediately in and around the OKC metro area are the “walk upright” types that mostly gather along roadways and underpasses begging for $$$ to stay on the meth pipe!
Thanks to the ACLU and their “its not a crime to beg” mentality, our city like every other place across this great U.S. of A. is now infested with this type of vermin er’ I mean “wild life” too! 😵‍💫🤪😎

Are these the type of vulture that you’re seeing out by your lake? (I couldn’t see a clear shot in pics!) if so those are commonly referred to as Turkey vultures!
Or at least that’s what they’re called roun’ here in the land o’ the redneck! Ha😎🤪

In NYS we are supposed to report otter sightings to the dec.

Been having a chess match with this guy, so far I'm being made a fool of. I may get one more shot at him before the end of the season.

Saw this guy on my way home from work. He was crossing the road in a rural area, no houses close so I let him slide. Plus they are on the protected list here in Texas I believe.

Baby rattler at the local playground my kids were playing at. Thankfully one of the kids noticed it before stepping on it.

This guy (mountain lion!) got hit by a car out on State Hwy 81 just south of Hwy 152 (approx 25-ish miles west of OKC) back in 2012 or so…
Okla Game commission speculated that he was a juvenile male about 2- 2 1/2 years old and 130 pounds when he was hit crossing the road just before dark.

Most thought they weren’t in Oklahoma any longer but this incident puts that belief to rest!
Kinda scary thinking back on all the solo night MTB rides I’ve done over the years out in the western part of the state! 😳😵‍💫❗️
