Gary Gerould. Does that name ring a bell? My first memory of him is SX. So many motor and other sports later, he’s still at it at 80. He’s been calling the Sac Kings games for the last 35 years.

Good listen. Stick/ball, motorsports, career and life (including tragic loss of his daughter last year.)

Link above is spotify, here’s the Apple podcast version. Description below:

"Gary Gerould, the G man.  The voice of the Sacramento Kings.  80 years old and he's still going strong.  He's done motorsports, the Olympics, local sportscaster, and the NBA.  His stories and history with the team are invaluable.  His familiarity with the league, the players, the coaches and the community show his professionalism and his humility.  He's an icon in the market, well loved and respected for all he does.  He talks motorsports and the great drivers he's had association with.  Mario Andretti, AJ Foyt and others. This is a conversation you'll not want to miss as Gary takes us places many will never be able to even comprehend in one lifetime."

He talks about covering/calling local Sacramento and Chico races, his friendship with Mario Andretti to this day and hilarious AJ Foyt stories. But, he's been witness to tragedy in motor sports too. (Indy Car and Drag racing)

When Scott Kalitta's engine exploded (resulting in Scott's passing at the end of the track), Gary was at the far end of the track 20-30 yards away. His recollection is bone chilling, observing Connie Kalitta (Scott's Dad) coming down to the end of the course to view the accident.

Was at a presser back in '80 or '79 for the street machine nationals at CalExpo and he was the MC. A hell of a lot shorter than he looked on KCRA doing sports. Real nice man that's for sure. A NoCal icon.

His son Bobby was doing NARC and WoO sprint car announcing for quite a while.
