Insomnia issues last night had me watching the movie. It's probably been 30 years or so since I have seen it. I didn't remember it being this bad. Am I getting old and crabby? Maybe it was the commercial station I was watching it on but this movie seemed really disjointed and clumsy. There were also at least 6 or 7 scenes where I was shaking my head and calling major bullshit. When you start hearing the names of some of the characters you start thinking it's a spoof. Lee Marvin played the only believable part. This was the first time I have ever been disappointed with a John Wayne movie. I just watched True Grit about a week ago and loved it. How did this one get rated so high?
I'm starting to get into some of the old Westerns like Gunsmoke and Rawhide. It's interesting to see some of the shows I liked 40 or 50 years ago. Anyone remember Branded?

I'm not familiar with Valdez is Coming. I will check it out as well as the Magnificent 7. I did see that many years ago but I would have to see it again.
I'm not watching The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance again though. My review stands but I will understand if you think I went off half cocked. So to speak.
We just changed from Fios to Charter so I am learning the new system. I'm willing to bet that can find some old Westerns on demand.
The Shop
I don't think there are any bad westerns... Open Range is my favorite newer western. Just re-watched The Searchers a couple of weeks ago along with Man from Laramie and Two Rode Together with Jimmy Stewart. Quigley Down Under is another favorite. Another good Tom Selleck western is one made for cable called Crossfire Trail.
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is a classic I always enjoy. Different strokes for different folks as they say....
Liberty Valance isn't his best work and they do cut it up on commercial TV in a way that makes it seem disjointed.
Love the old stuff from Stagecoach on up.
Hondo, The Searchers, Rio Bravo, McLintock, Sons of Katie Elder, The Cowboys , True Grit etc...
Two favorites are The Shootist.and Big Jake actually named my son Jake.....not Jacob; Jake....lol.
So yah big fan.
If you're ever in Oklahoma City you should check out the national Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, they have a whole section on movie cowboys.
