Just had to tell you that my daughter Alex did the 2.4 mile swim at the Silverman in Vegas, she got 4th overall out of 400+ swimmers and was the 1st woman, she busted out 47.50 and the guy who won did 45.58. The next woman was 1.08 I believe. Alex and my brother Marc and a friend Adam Bathurst did the relay, with Marc bicycling 112 miles and Adam running 26 miles, they got 5th overall !! Alex killed all the previous records for women swimming at Silverman. It was her and my Brothers first triathlon.

Eric Bostrom got 5th overall doing the full triathlon solo !! He was delirious afterward but he did really well doing it at 11 hours and 18 mins.

They say the Silverman is harder then the Ironman because of the elevations, but the Ironman is more famous !! Just wanted to brag a little =)

Alex will start training now to do the Oceanside Triathlon solo but she's going to start with the 1/2 triathlon.

I swam 800 yards non-stop in a pool for the first time last month and was so proud of myself! Can't imagine swimming 1,600 yards, times 2.5....even in a pool.

Is is\t legal to wear a snorkel? I remember someone telling me you could wear a snorkel while swimming. If so, that's horseshit. The hardest part is timing on your breathing and breathing in choppy water.

No snorkels, or fins or hand paddles or water wings or life vest or rubber duckies. You can wear a wetsuit as long as the water temp is like below I think 70 degrees. Hell if you could wear a snorkel everyone would be doing triathlons. Ok maybe not everyone Wink

Congrats to your daughter. Sounds like she did a great job.

But I have to admit, when I saw "Silverman" I thought you meant Sarah and really expected this thread to be going a whole different direction.Blush

I swam 50 yards the other day and had to be helped from the pool! (I'm not kidding)...

Anyone that does triathalons, ironmans, marathons or any other long distance torture test has my complete and utter respect!

I did a sprint tri in 56 degree water in a speedo.

Real men don't bother with wetsuits, snorkels, or any of that hubbub!
