My son bought a Sig P229 .40 at a local shooting club fundraiser. (live auction-fish fry dinner thing). It came with a holster and two magazines and case. He won the auction at $550 bucks.

Any of you guys familiar with the Sig P229? Good pistol? He wanted to take it with him to TBS in Quantico.

I have a P226 9mm that I love; accuracy is second to none.
The P229 is identical other than the shorter barrel and grip; smaller = harder to shoot accurately but its still a great gun.

Great gun...awesome price.

Only concern with Sigs is that the aluminum frames were prone to cracking with the 9mms so I imagine it will be more prone with .40.

I have never been fond of DA/SA guns but Sig is one of the best.

That is a good deal. I have owned a few 229s and loved them.

Sigs are some of the best pistols made. I had a 226 9mm with well over 25k rounds through it and had no problems at all ( I did replace the springs with Wolffs though).

Right now I have a beat up old 220 in .45ACP and it shoots great and is dead reliable.

I own several Sigs, one is the 229 in .40/.357 Sig (interchangeable barrels). Never heard of any frame failures, in fact they're known for being extremely reliable and very accurate.

It's an excellent pistol: kinda like the Porsche GT3 of 9s.

That's a good price with those acc's.

If I am not mistaken, the 229 is also used as well as Beretta by our military ....I am not mistaken.

They deservedly have that reputation...but the frame cracking is "in fact" well documented in duty/service weapons as well as some low-round-count commercial guns. All guns fail at some point and this seems to be SIgs failure. Whether it happens at 5k or 500k rounds is the unknown....especially with a .40. Luckily, regular cleaning and inspection will usually catch the frame rail cracks before the gun fails.

Very good, and your kid will love it, very nice firearm. My only thought is, will he supply his own ammo or will the Marines base supply the .40 cal.?

The P229 is the standard issue duty weapon for Special Agents of the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS), United States Secret Service (USSS), and Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).

The Sig is for his own personal carry use. Have no clue whether the USMC issues sidearms to officers.

Race, I don't even understand my post, here's the translation Silly

I'm hoping the base issue's .40 ammo because it's getting expensive, compared to other calibers.

I haven't had a chance to shoot the Taurus, looks good though. .40 is a good caliber to reload according to my kid for his Glock 22 (40 cal)

I have a P229 chambered in .40. Love it.. shoots better than any other 40 i have had a turn with. I havn't had a chance to shoot an XD40 yet though. I bought my sig about 3 years ago from a gun show. I believe it was 450. It was a reconditioned service pistol with new chamber.
