Zero issues from the motor from 0 miles until 180k.
Electrical issue around 170k miles on the tranny that was a ~$300 repair.
Overall, truck required minimal maintenance for the entire time i owned it (i bought it new in 2011).
Only got rid of it is i don't like having a daily driver with high(er) mileage and my commute was about to increase.
I currently own a 2015 platinum f150. I searched out this specific truck. I wanted a 5.0 because I planned on keeping it for a long time, and quite frankly, turbos and long term scared me from the 3.5. I bought it with 60k on it in the end of 2018. It now has 102k. Only thing I've done is new motorcraft plugs just for maintenance (super easy), Bilstein 5100 rear shocks, and rear pads.
Back up a little....
To me, gearing became a very big factor for me. You can find the gearing on the door jamb sticker. Look under axle, then Google the axle code, or just find the original window sticker. My dad had a 13 5.0 with 3.31s. after driving that truck, I thought I'd never buy another f150 (first half ton since an 04 5.4 I had). Dogshit slow and sluggish. Then I started researching and found that there were two other gear options (3.55 and 3.73). I found an xlt with a 5.0 3.73 and went and test drove it. Wow, entirely different than my dad's truck. That's when my search started and I sold my camper so didn't need my 3/4 ton. I knew I still wanted to tow a decent camper if needed, or dump trailer with mulch, or the sled trailer in the winter. My 5.0 with 3.73 5.5' bed platinum is like a mustang in a truck body. The mpg difference is too negligible for me to care, 1.5-2. It rips, and it's rated to tow 10,900. The 3.55 is rated around 8800 and the 3.31 is something like 7400.. I've pulled a 31' bumper pull about 20 miles and had no problem. I've also pulled roughly 11k in mulch in a dump and the gearing and motor was just fine. Sure she worked, but I expected that as these things make HP hlat higher rpms. Only thing I'd do to comfortably pull would be airbags or load right set up.
My dad now owns an 18 5.0 6.5' bed with 3.55s and the 10 speed.. After driving that, I definitely like my 6 speed. My perfect truck, that im actively looking for is a 17 5.0 3.73 platinum or king ranch (yes my wife and I both like stupid bells and whistles) with a 6.5' bed and towing mirrors.. I'll likely have an f150 until I buy a 5er toy hauler. Even then I'll probably stay gas as in very intrigued by the new 7.3. diesels are fun and have power for days, but they cost alot more all the way around. If I pulled heavy multiple times a week, maybe back to no spark plugs.
Anyway, sorry for rambling. I can't help you with the R title stuff as I've always been too scared to go that route to save a few bucks. If you have any specific questions, feel free to reach out and shoot me a text. 330 eight oh six oo82..
Beware of that “branded” title. Hard to insure and nearly impossible to finance. “Rebuilt” from “salvage”. Say that to yourself two or three times before you let your sign buy it.
For you old guys who would remember a SOHC 427, yeah, that bad.
Thanks!

Also, one thing I really wish I had is the bed step for loading bikes.
Ive recently towed with my f150 and while it wasn’t as effortless as would have liked, it still towed a 24’ boat up and down hills with zero issues. Maybe the 3.73 gears would do better especially with my 33” tires but in tow/haul mode the truck performed strong.
Because of this thread and the comments made, I’ve since looked into converting both diff’s to 3.73 (4X4), and the $1900 price (parts and labor) is too high to for me at the moment. Maybe once the truck outta warranty I’ll reconsider?
