I spent yesterday spec-ing out body armor for my volunteer fire department. Never thought volunteer firefighters would need body armor.

Defunding the police will mean funding other departments with body armor. Before you know it a firefighter will need a side peace.

Maybe that will be the new normal.

Isn't the new normal everyone carrying a side peace? That's the point of CC and stand your ground.

How many of you guys have been shot while putting out a fire? You’re doing this on your own?

Stay safe, shits about to go down in Kentucky.

Edit: indictments came in, justice will hopefully be served in the courts, not the streets

Disgusting- and if anybody has a problem with it, they will get labeled a racist. I blame social media for the rise of the scum in society.

The media is also largely responsible for the racial divide that's happening. It's not too hard to figure out which stories make the news, and which one's don't. They know damn well what's going to get viewers and reader hits.

As to the original poster. This is sad; our firefighters and other first responders should feel safe out there so they can do their job. But it seems like law and order are a thing of the past.

Are we to the point where the media needs to stop reporting it. Like not filming idiots that run on a baseball field ?

If you only vaguely pay attention to what's happening in the news, you nowhere near get the full story and it's easy to buy into the "cops are executing black people blindly" mantra.

For example, they were interviewing a black pastor here in DFW somewhere. If I'm not mistaken it's somewhere just east of Arlington and the church is on 20 with an enormous BLM sign. The guy was saying that the Breonna Taylor shooting was a tragedy and it's a tragedy the officers weren't charged with anything serious. The follow up question wasn't asked, which should have been along the lines of "do you think the fact that her boyfriend, a murder suspect, fired shots at the officers first after she told them she didn't know where he was, changes the nature of the shooting to be more justifiable". Could have brought up the fact that she was a suspected drug dealer. I also want them to start asking about if the black community wants to form their movement around people who weren't colossal pieces of shit. Why not find people that were actually not felons, doing felonious activities when they got shot. Also, how much accountability is placed on the suspects in these cases.

The reason that question probably wasn't asked was because Kenneth Walker was NOT a murder suspect.......

But don't let the facts get in the way of a good dog whistle......

That is definitely a valid subject to look at. Equally valid is to look at upholding the values that the founding fathers knew were so important they were written into the bill of rights. Almost all of the first 10 amendments are intended to limit the power of the police to make decisions on the spot because that can be such a slippery slope. Decisions of punishment were relegated to the court system. Relatedly, with the technology available today, there should be mandatory video when serving a search warrant because that is a planned event that can go sideways in so many ways. Implementing video would be easy. I also do not support destructive or violent protests or anyone out "looking for trouble" at this time.

These words were written 231 years ago for a reason.

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Amendment V
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Amendment VI
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

Amendment VIII
Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

Everything else is factually correct. Look at all the FACTS of the case (not what the media feeds you) and anyone can see there was no way these officers were being charged with her death. Shitty situation for sure, but there is absolutely no way they'd ever be found guilty.

The thing about body cam videos that people don't understand is they're extremely expensive. Recording video 24/7 on multiple officers then storing that content is crazy expensive. That money has to come from somewhere. Defunding the police then saying they should all wear body cameras in the same breath couldn't possibly be more stupid. (Im not saying you agree with defunding the police. Just making a general point.)

tell that to all the celebrities, sports figures, and "important" public figures spreading complete lies about this from day 1 and now even with the FACTS out there they aren't changing their tune.

RE: body cam video
I was saying that when serving a lawful warrant and raiding a house or building that is occupied there should at least 1 video documenting how it all went down.

Similar situation here in Pittsburgh summer 2018 . A car with 3 young kids did a drive by shooting , missing their intended target ,but emptying their guns in the process. One gun ( a 9 mm) was stolen an hour earlier in a armed robbery of the victims employer ( that is NEVER brought up). Pittsburgh officers noticed the reported vehicle involved in the Drive by and pulled them over. While the driver was being handcuffed ,the other 2 took off running. The officers repeatedly warned the perps to stop, but kept going and one was shot and subsequently died. The victim has been proven to have been a shooter at the drive by ( GSR and eyewitness) AND the armed robbery of his employer. Should have the officer just let him run? The victim was known to be armed and had already attempted murder a few minutes earlier --- Whats the right call ??

The biggest issue we all have it seems, is that the Media is making heroes out of all these police shooting victims ,glossing over the facts that the vast majority of these "victims" are criminals that have just committed a crime or being sought for one.

The Steelers had put the Pittsburgh shooting victims name on the back of their helmets until several of them realized that the kid was an armed criminal . Alejandro Villanueva being the first to remove the name and replace it with a true American fallen hero Alwyn Cashe ( black-by the way) who died in battle trying to save his soldiers from a burning vehicle in Irag.

The Breona Taylor case is pretty much the same --- Police attempting to thwart criminal activity are shot at FIRST thru a closed door --- that's all you need to read in my opinion.

Are there social injustices being enacted everyday in America and every other country ? Absolutely . Are any of these other countries glorifying the criminals that happen to pay the price for their illegal activities ? Don't know enough about that to make a firm statement, but I'm thinking---no.

Here is a novel thought--- " Don't break the law and you won't get bothered by Law enforcement"

I'm sure I'm going to get toasted by some of you, but I'm tired of these "victims" being portrayed as innocent angels that were just brutally gunned down .

I have several friends that are LEO's some local and some State Troopers (black and white--its not a race thing to me) and I also know some that are complete assholes as well, but I know this --there's not enough money to convince me to be an officer and I salute those of you on here that are putting it on the line everyday while major media is putting a target on your back. !!

I remember that case very well. The guy who was shot was also reaching into his pants and pulling something out. I believe it was found that he was trying to dump the guns magazine from his pocket.

I felt the same way when we got our body armor.
It was mandatory to don the armor for shooting and stabbing calls.
When I graduated from my fire academy in 1981, I had to sign a form 47, transfer of property, for my equipment .It all fit on one 47. When I retired it would have taken almost 3 of those forms. We got body armor, one per post position after the LA riots of 92. In early 2000's we got sized personal body armor. Bee keeper hoods were issued when the AHB threat was going around. Wildland gear was a head to toe equipment issue in the late 90's. When when I started we didn't even get issued a brush jacket. Around 2005 we got individually issued SCBA masks. We had a shopping cart we used to move all that shit to our cars if we had to go work at another station.
The FRO training for terrorism was a little upsetting. That with the body armor really made me feel like the good old days were gone.

I also want them to start asking about if the black community wants to form their movement around people who weren't colossal pieces of shit. Why not find people that were actually not felons, doing felonious activities when they got shot. Also, how much accountability is placed on the suspects in these cases.

Everything else is factually correct. Look at all the FACTS of the case (not what the media feeds you) and anyone can see there was no way these officers were being charged with her death. Shitty situation for sure, but there is absolutely no way they'd ever be found guilty.
No, it isn't. She didn't tell "them" that she didn't know where anyone was. There was nothing in the warrants or investigation that shows her being suspected of dealing drugs.

The inference that Breonna Taylor was a "colossal piece of shit" (IWAL's post, not yours) is just an absolutely disgusting statement.

Breonna Taylor wasn't a felon, nor was she "doing felonious activities" when she was killed.

As for whether or not the officers who killed her would have been found guilty, you are probably right.

And that's the point........

You have got to be kidding me.... come on Aplman, we don't always agree on things but you usually have more common sense than most and can acknowledge facts. If you don't believe the cops had enough to get a warrant then there's no way you have read enough about this case. We'll just go ahead and dispute a few more lies coming from the media. How about the one where the officers were in "plain clothes"

I didn't realize duty vests with the word "POLICE" in bold yellow font across was considered "plain clothes."

Also, how about the narrative that her boyfriend didn't know it was police outside? The other officers literally carried the officer who was shot to safety.... while red and blues were lighting up the street. I mean, come on. You can't be serious?

It's a tragedy on all sides. Breonna's only crime was, her bad taste in men. Current boyfriend wasn't even the target, from what I've heard, he was actually concerned about the same ex-boyfriend the cops were concerned with. Cops thought she may have been storing money or drugs for ex-boyfriend. No reason for a 3 a.m. raid. Take your emotion out of the situation for a moment and put yourself in that context. You're dead asleep, startled awake by banging on the door, then it crashes in; yeah, there's a distinct possibility that any of us may have fired at the "intruders". Then again, if I'm the cops, i return fire. It's a tragic situation. There was no need for the cops to be performing that raid at 3 am. There was no reason for the boyfriend to fire at a target he can't see or identify.
