Rotator Cuff Injury

Took a digger hiking a few weeks ago and smarted my shoulder. Didn't feel bad, but after tubing at the cabin over the fourth, I tried to hit a bucket of balls at the range and it became glaringly obvious something was wrong.

Got in to the doctor on Friday, and he's fairly certain it's sprained with my range of motion (pretty good), said to come back for an MRI if it's not better after a few weeks. However, over the weekend the lady friend was feeling around and the two spots that are pretty tender (top of arm and front of shoulder) have decent sized indentations, and she said that's what her's did when it was torn. Just curious if anyone has any similar experiences. At any rate, doc said no activities that could agitate it for 6 weeks.

Could be the A.C. joint , mine hurt so bad it made me tense up sometimes if I moved it certain ways ,it would throb through my whole shoulder and hard to determine where it was actually coming from. So far ,the best thing I have done for it is to take fish oil pills 3 times a day , I believe mine was like a tendonitis type condition and the fish oil helps tremendously for inflammation. Obviously wouldn't fix a torn anything.

Can you lift your injured arm straight up in front of you? If no, good chance it's torn. If yes but painful you're prob OK.
If you get an MRI make sure it's WITH CONTRAST. Thats the only way to see tears and even then it's a crapshoot. Otherwise it's a waste of time/money.

I dislocated mine at WW Ranch the day before new years 2017. Saw urgent care who couldn't tell anything bc it was so locked up and ROM was practically zero. Saw a sports med doc in St. Pete's a two weeks later and it was clarified no rotator cuff tear thru simple resistance testing. The thing hurt like a bitch tho...couldn't sleep, etc. I feared the worst but dodged a bullet with the rotator cuff.
From what I've read a tear is one of the hardest things to come back from without going under the knife and even then no guarantees.
Good luck!

I've torn my labrum (both shoulders) more times than I can count. It hurts like a mofo. Simple things like flicking a Kleenex into a trash can will bring you to tears. Yes, it will take an MRI to confirm, and yes the recovery time is lengthy. It took me about 2 months to recover (fully) from my last bout.

Did my Rotator Cuff playing Australian Rules, just by throwing my arm up quickly to catch a ball years ago. Always have to be careful with it, like reaching into the back seat of a car. Worst thing is I forget about it, then I try to throw a ball or something and the pain is excruciating. I haven’t had surgery,

Did my rotator cuff and AC joint 4 years ago, I was riding again after a month or so but it was very painful for a very long time and best it ever got was probably 80%. Just wrecked it again way worse this time 4 months ago. 2 surgeries later I am finally able to begin physio tomorrow.

Get to the bottom of it, shoulders are brutal and you need to rehab it properly. My biggest mistake was I quit going to physio once it was good enough that I was able to resume work. I should have kept going, I’m sure it would have healed a lot better.

Out of the blue my L shoulder started hurting several months ago. It’s the same shoulder I had dislocation surgery Bristow repair done on and I thought that may be why its hurting. I tried stretching and nothing seemed to 100% help.

Last Friday I finally went to my massage therapist and she spent an hour on my shoulder and pain was about 90% gone. Took 3 days for the worked muscle soreness to go away Shocked She is so booked I can not get back in again for 5 weeks.

BTW I had back pain and did not ride for 3 years. Went to a back specialist Dr and had a MRI and they could not find anything wrong. Went to therapy and in the initial examination they found my R big toe lost a lot of its movement. I went to therapy 3 days a week for 2 weeks and didn’t get any relief. I went in for massage 2 times a week and she straightened out my back and increased my big toes flexibility so back pain has not returned.

We were lucky to find our talented massage therapist.

had a get off about 7 weeks ago now... 6 busted ribs, collapsed lung, had a chest tube for a few days, ect. Out of all of that, my shoulder hurt worse than anything! The ortho's in the hospital kept saying it was inferred pain... ribs were the real culprit, shoulder was fine. After looking at my own X-rays, it was glaringly obvious my collar bone was a country mile from my shoulder. Went to another orthopedic who couldnt seem to decide weather my AC separation was bad enough to require surgery or not. Ultimately ended up seeing a third ortho for another opinion.

The first like 3 weeks post accident I couldnt even move my arm. I completely forget I had broken ribs and the lung issue compared to the shoulder. My point is some of these doctors are not out for your best interest (judging by teh one ortho i had in the hospital and the second one who couldnt determine what grade separation I had to decide on surgery/nosurgery). Go get another opinion if its still bothering you.

Disgusting. Sorry you have to be your doctor. Heal up brother.
