1998 she lived for 272k miles. Paid $1200 for it 3 years ago. Got hot and seized up on my way to work this morning. Took me lots of places, lots of memories, RIP

Doesn't look like she suffered at all in the end.
Sorry for your loss ...

That thing looks way too good to declare dead. From the pic. I think I'd be checking out doing a transplant of some kind.

Kinda weird, the 98 4 cyl was a 2.5 instead of the usual 2.3. Wonder if I could drop a 2.3 in it. It’s a M5 also.

Right now it was all I had so I gotta figure something out this weekend but I’m not opposed to keeping it and trying to get it going again. It actually didn’t seize upon further inspection, it’ll crank and hit just won’t fire. Was running 60mph or so and power fell off abruptly and the temp gauge shot up. Smelled like cooked oil. Not sure, didn’t have any major issues leading up to that.

I put a lot of work into it trying to keep it going and roadworthy, just did timing belt, new battery and alternator, new tires, rebuilt all the wear items in the front end, new plugs and wires.

Should be able to swap a 2.3 in. Just use the older lima 2.3 not the duratech 2.3
Do your research first. Might be a different flywheel/clutch. Everything else ought to be the same.

Did you have a coolant leak? I'm at around 260k on my little 2.3 litre. I've had to replace a few of those plastic coolant fittings recently.

Not trying to start a pissing contest, but I had a 1998 S-10 4cyl 5spd and the odometer burned out at 305,000 and drove the shit out of it for 5 more years. I figure it had well over 400k when I finally pulled it (all the gauges quit). It still ran decent. My secret: flush the radiator every 100k.

I have 240,000 on my 99 Troy Lee mazda (a ranger in disguise) with the 3.0 v6 and it is still going strong.

One of these days I will get around to replacing the front ball joints-the squeak is starting to annoy me.

I would guess that means she wants a rebuild. Got you to where you needed to be.

I got a 2007 car that I paid 700 for. It's clean, looks good, and only had 130,000 miles on it. Gets me to work, good on gas, and so far all I've had to do is have the front bearings and brakes replaced, and new tires (plus regular oil changes). I actually appreciate this car for it's value.

My 2000 Tundra is about to hit 347,000 miles. Blink I look at the price of new trucks and keep putting it off. It cost more to register my dual sport than that truck this year. The truck owes me nothing and keeps on trucking along

I have a 98 that a family member gave me 12 years ago when they inherited a car from their father.

It had a salvage title, and had gotten rear ended, and the paint was peeling. It had under 100k miles when I got it.

I was driving it to do some work and it started knocking about halfway there. I turned around and it got me home.

Bought a low mile salvage engine and paid a buddy to stick it in, plus a clutch while motor was out.
About $800.

Still running. Tow bared it 1000 miles to texas. Drove it home, and it even ran TX interstate speeds of 85-90 mph. Towed it 600 miles to Michigan helping a friend move, and drove it home on the crappies interstates in the country.

Still running strong.

Heater control doesn't work.

Engine light is on. Has been for 50k miles

Radio circuit has a parasitic drain.

Had to unplug fuse on interior light because the cab got tweaked when it got rear ended and the door switch won't shut off.

But I would hop in it and drive it anywhere right now
