The guy pioneered a lot of good safety gear. I still have my first Simpson 3 layer firesuit from almost 30 years ago.

RIP Bill. What an innovator for safety products. Saved a lot of racers, across many disciplines, much greater injuries had he not developed superior safety products. I have a helmet from the 80's. It was top of the line by a mile back then. Also an old nomex Simpson firesuit that wore like iron. Glad I never had to test its' fireproofing quality.

Shame what they did to him when Dale died.

You'd think someone would have the balls to tell Dale he was messing up putting his own belts in at that angle.

Earnhardt killed himself, just that simple. Driving @ 200mph staring into your rear-view-mirror most of the time (in an attempt to block the fastest car on the track so your son could win that day) isnt very smart. Proof positive that complacency kills on the super speedway and ego cant supersede physics.

My Dad and I were into drag racing (both land/water), so not surprising I ended up with one of his moto helmets. ...and yes, it was quality.

A true pioneer/icon. RIP Bill Simpson.
