Not a big fan of the monarchy but it is sad that almost all of the WW2 generation is gone. She enlisted and served as a mechanic during the war. RIP
Her and the entire Royal family stayed in the UK during 1940 despite being offered to go to safety in Canada.

A time when the country had the German army massing on the French coast having lost most of its equipment at Dunkirk, the Luftwaffe hammering the living shit out of cities up and down the country and the U boats threatening to starve the country into submission.

Regardless of anything else that has to earn some respect.

This youtube channel is interviews with surviving veterans and is worth checking out if you are a WW2 buff or just like hearing interesting stories.

Wow, every post has 1 downvote, would love to know who it is and what family member she sent to the tower for such bitterness?

We aren't man/woman enough to do that shit here. Honestly, if I downvote a thread I wish it would show that I downvoted.

I’m not crying, I didn’t accuse you of anything/lying. I called you a twat because you made a post only a twat would make. Start a thread about how terrible the Queen and royalty is. I won’t post. This is not that thread.

She could Ride, turn a wrench and Luved animals, wish I would have known stuff like this before her passing.

Never mind her Royalty--she just seemed like a Great Woman as well.

She took her car mechanics course in Aldershot, Nova Scotia. Not far from my home.

I think you’ll find it was ‘our’ Aldershot in the UK, home of the parachute regiment.

You must be right Rob, I don’t think she left the UK during the war. I should have known better, a few people posted pics of her making the claim it was Aldershot NS.
Thanks for the correction.

Back in the day , i worked with Peter Phillips, who was Princess Anne's son, Jackie Stewart had him on the roster Stewart F1, and latterly Jaguar, and we always used to give him stick , about 'Granny'.. he always had a laugh with us, we respected him, and just let him be a normal guy working a regular job, to the point where people who he showed round , barely had any clue who he really was.

And 5 years ago, when i worked as an Engineering Trainer, one of our students, opted out of a trip to a music festival, and went to Balmoral with his cousin, both lads were Indian, and looked a lot younger than the 18 year olds that they were.

Wandering round the public areas up there , they met the Queen walking a dog. with an aide, just like 2 old ladies in the park, she stopped and they chatted a few minutes, he told her that she had visited his grandparents home city of Bombay, and they had waited many hours to see her.

He said she was really small ( like him) but so pleasant and happy to chat , he did the decent thing and didnt ask for a photograph, but as she went to move on she offered them one if they wished.

So my Monday morning ritual was always to ask my class of about 15 what they had been up, who had fun, who's weekend sucked the most, bit of banter , broke the ice for the week .

This Monday, when i say ' who had the best weekend' , we had the usual ' party' stories, a few local sports ones, and then one of the girls says ' Rishi wins this forever' ... and he looks at her as if to tell her to shut up.

She walks up with her phone , and shows me the picture, and i have to guess who the person in the middle is.

It took me ages , until i realised, there , stood smiling between 2 teenagers, is The Queen.

I am not a Royalist, but i respect the idea of a Monarch, what i cant be doing with , is the media attention all the rest of the hangers on get.

And my next door neighbours daughter will be part of the funeral ceremony, she rides horses, in the Kings Guard, TV has reached saturation point with coverage , and we have the day off on Monday for the Funeral, i think we will have a street gathering, to pay our respects.

Saw the complete dissolution of the empire but at the same time was a colonizer.

I thought about writing an eloquent retort but was then reminded of an apt quote.

"Never argue with an idiot, they will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience".

Stay classy

To "stay classy" would mean he'd have to have class to start out with.
