Hope you got lots of cash. They BUY cheap and SELL high...but they don't talk about that too much. Or did you stop in just for the tattooed gal?

I work pretty close to their store.

Cool store...but it's mostly just a tourist stop, not really for shopping.

If you are still in the area, I highly checking out Moto Armory which is only about 20 minutes from Leclaire. Moto-Armory.com

I rode through Galesburg this morning. Our home farm is near Elizabeth.

Very cool smile

I love the show and the places they get to go and see and people they meet it's a cool concept and they are the original ones who made it to the boob tube successfully.

Good for them my only problem is they're on late at night and I find myself not being able to turn it off when I need to go to sleep hahahagrin

They would have to. A lot of costs associated with traveling around and picking.

Nice. I love that show, one of the only shows I watch besides Seinfeld and South Park

But they make money off the TV show, right? How much I wonder. If you looked at their total income for the year, what percentage is from selling old stuff and what percentage is from doing the TV show?

I would guess 99.9% from the TV show and 0.1% from selling stuff. smile

I'm a fan of the show. I can't remember where I saw it but it was said that Mike Wolfe pulls about $1 Million a season. Not sure about Frank, Robbie or Danielle.

It's afforded him a lifestyle he couldn't even dream of but he put in the work. It took years before anyone took him and his concept seriously. Finally History took a gamble on it and as they say the rest is history (pun intended lol).

Paid off big time for both parties.

That came up in moto-related a while back. If you haven't watched the episode and would like to see it I posted the video in the thread. I'll post the link to the thread once I find it.

Edit: Guy Cooper on American Pickers

OP, cool post!

A big chunk of the price of the stuff they sell is for "driving to nowhere and climbing in a rat / snake / spider / who knows what nest to find some trinket". If I had to climb on those rickety ass sheds in the middle of summer, I'd be asking a chunk, too.

It is a great show and I have learned a bunch of history from that show and others like it. Some of thier offers for those items are very high which may be a bit staged but if not then they hook the previous owners up pretty well. Mike will grab an old rusty headlight can and offer $500. The guy trys to act casual but can tell he is surprised at the high offer, then he finds the lense and offers 700 for the can and lense. Not lowballing and that is cool too.

I don't have to be as smart as you hope to be some day anymore. wink

I don't usually watch the Pickers. But in 2012 they visited Beno Rodi outside of Atlanta GA. Beno had given me the tour of his shop and motorcycle stuff in 1999 when I was in GA for the Bremen AHRMA national VMX. When the Picker guys toured Beno's place nothing had changed in 13 years and Beno actually let go of some stuff which surprised me.
