That was one of the things I hated about being a mechanic. Test driving nasty cars. I remember driving with the door open retching just to pull one in the alignment bay. Another one had so much trash in it when another guy welded up a rear end bracket it ended up smoldering then catching fire. Half the store burned down because of that one. Suddenly her POS Chevette became a Corvette.............People can be nasty........

I'm guessing a woman in her 20s...?

I see cars like every so often. I have no idea how people can live like that.

I used to work in a collision shop, this guy had a near brand new 2002 Trans Am, and had curb rashed the front bumper. For a car with super low miles on it, I couldn't believe the condition of the interior, a thick greasy layer of dog slobber and hair over everything. The car stank horribly. He had our detailer do a full shampoo etc of the interior before it left the shop.
Few weeks later, same car is back with similar damage and it was already half way to the point it came in the last time... Dude must have some money to treat a car like that and to pay for any little blemish to be fixed and not give a damn. Considering it was a very well optioned car in the last year that any would ever be produced it was a shame.

Also came across the typical garbage packed car, nasty undies, sex toys, needles, crusty porn mags etc throughout my few years there. We had some good customers that I remember, we basically replaced the back half of a car that wasn't worth the time or money, insurance had wrote it off but it had sentimental value (I think it was a 4 door alero) and they paid for the work. After the job was done they bought the shop lunch and the 4 of us techs in the shop got some nice 40s of some fancy whisky (don't recall what it was, I was barely legal to drink at the time so it didn't matter what it was).

I'm not super anal about my daily driver, but every spring I unbolt the seats and shampoo all the upholstery and carpets, which is pointless because a couple weekends later the moto season starts up and the interior gets covered in track dirt.

My old T/A stays spotless, don't even think of touching the dashboard with anything other than a shammy.

Reminds me of the story the harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite told about living in a really bad neighborhood in Memphis for a year, and hating to carry his 50-odd lb. amplifier upstairs to his apartment after gigs. He got a shipping carton the right size to slide over the amp but a little taller, then cut the bottom of the carton out and taped it into the carton sitting on top of the amp. He glued some old fast food bags and other discardables into the new "floor" of the carton, atop the amp, so it looked like a big box of random trash in the back seat. He'd slide the "garbage box" over the amp when he loaded out of the gig, and left the amp in the car parked on the street every day for the whole year, unmolested.

Girl I dated for a while was just insanely messy. Went to pick her up for a first date and literally could not sit on her couch or chairs while she finished getting ready to go out; just too piled with all kinds of crap. She would get things out of dresser and/or kitchen drawers and not bother to close any of the drawers. Her study group refused to come over when it was her turn to host them. But she was pretty darn cute, so I didn't tuck and run right away, ya know?

Funny side note - Newmann, I'm pretty sure you would know her; I believe she was a HS classmate of yours!.

Yep! Did I tell you that story at one time, or did you know her well enough to tell who it was from my post?

I'm just waiting for a response from Peelout about how well he knew her....
