I love dentsides & Excursions. I have an 05 Excursion & a 78 F250 SC 4x4. I would trade both for a diesel one of these-

The green one is the truck I’m thinking about doing the conversion in. I’ve got a few quotes but the waiting lists on both are over a year. Confident I with help could do most of the work outside of notching the frame. The white one will get the 400 that is currently in the green truck.

My $2k score awhile back. Running gear & interior in great shape just needs body work. Came with tabco patch panels. Engine bay is completely clean and stock I put Superduty front springs on it for a bit of lift and better ride. Just sitting now need time. I met a guy who have a crew cab with a 12v in it over the summer. Said it wasn't a tough swap.

Had to look that up! Sounds like it wasn't technically a "production" car, but a conversion like those 2nd gen Camaro convertibles were.

I was surprised also. It had piddly issues like exhaust gaskets and stuff that made it sound like crap. But it was a two-owner even had original build sheet in it. $12,850 back in '78. Will be a fund project at some point. Doubt I will diesel it as I have three diesel trucks already. Probably just mildly build the 400....Right now I just gotta find a place in one of my barns so it doesn't rot away........

The 400 doesn't get the credit it deserves and that is probably due to more aftermarket parts for the more common Ford engines. It can cost to money to build a 400, but Tim Meyer is the 400 king. Check him out when you get to that point. Even if you don't buy anything from him he is always willing to give direction and input.

Those 400s were limited by the heads, you can make some decent torque numbers but its a lot less expensive to go
with a 460 if you have the room. Its real easy to build a stroker with the 460 and get some real good numbers.

I put one in a 73 Mach 1 for less than 3k and it is unreal.

Also put a 302 - 357 with open port Cleveland Heads in my 65 Mustang, AKA a Clevelor.

I remember seeing something along the lines of this type of Dodge back in 02 or 03 at a car auction (minus the crazy paint). It wasn't a "production" vehicle, though. I think it was done by a conversion company in Canada, as most of the vehicles at that auction were being brought down from there. I think there were a handful of conversion companies doing some Dodges and more of the Ford larger SUVs into Suburban style rigs.

In all fairness, the Camaro looked a little bit better in person than in photos, but I was quite a bit younger back then and could have been swayed by the "rarity" factor.......

I would love to do one of these with a modern drive train for a daily driver.

So sweet. Buddy of mine who runs the c10 truck club has a few sweet burbs. They’re not 4x4 and are slammed. They still look pretty cool. I’ll grab some pictures tomorrow
