Probably been discussed here before, but I just need to vent a bit.
I have a car that I am trying to sell, and I can't figure out why so many people will express interest, set up a time and place to check it out, then never show up. Some will cancel at the last minute, but most don't even bother to. They just don't show.
I basically do what I say I am going to do, and it baffles me why so many people don't.
And don't get me started on the scammers responding to Craigslist ads.

Been there. Extremely rude and disrespectful. I’ve moved my schedule around times that the “buyer” said worked for them. And nothing, no show, no apology.

I posted on this before. Someone on here gave sound advice, "NEVER inconvenience yourself"

I sale a bunch of cars. I don't mind for people coming to my home so I will just give them a timeline they can come look.

I would not do this if my place wasnt securely fenced and locked. People on craigslist suck. Bikes are even worse, good luck.

I don't set anything up until the person is ready to meet up. Tell me you can head over right now, and I'll give you my address. Making plans in advance just means you're giving flakes more time to flake.

I've never understood why they go through so much trouble planning, knowing they aren't actually going to show

I give someone a landmark near my house like a grocery store or church parking lot. That’s address I give them. I can be at that location in 5 minutes. If they message me that they are there waiting I’ll drive over or give my address sometimes. If I don’t hear from them then I haven’t wasted too much time and they don’t have my address.

It’s not just when buying or selling, the lack of regard people have for other people’s time is mind blowing.

I don't generally give my exact location, but arrange to meet them nearby.
One exception was a couple of years ago when I sold an old non running pickup for $500. I gave the buyer my home address, and he showed up open carrying. Of course I was open carrying too, and the deal went off without a problem.

For a lot of people the fun is in the search, once you purchase something the fun is over and buyers remorse starts.

They go from thing to thing. Pretending they are going to buy it. Taking it as far as they can. All along knowing they will back out at the last second.

Sellers do this too. Pretend they are going to sell their prized possession. Letting people come see and drool all over said possession. Then back out at the last second. They knew all along they would never sell it.

Learn how to have a good time playing is also a good idea.

When my brother in law got his dirtbike stolen the cops told him it was most likely the guy that called and never showed up to look at it , I would have to imagine selling a car is a different story.

Started doing this lately and definitely is the way to go! There is a school right up the road from the house. When, or usually if, they text saying they are there - then i head that way. I stopped having people come to the house when i went to sell my wife's KLX125. Dude i had been speaking to on the phone was not included in the group of questionable individuals that showed up to my house....

I’m in the car business. When a customer tells me, “I’ll just keep my trade”, I’ll refer to this scenario. Nine times out of ten, I get the trade at the price I want.

I don't set up meetings with anyone without a deposit. If you aren't willing to throw down a $100 e-transfer you're not serious about it.

Agreed!
I had a whole camping trip planned FOR my buddy and me (he kept asking to go camping).
All packed the night before. Ready to go 8 am next morning. Nothing. He texts me at 9 am to say he can't go because his mom is having surgery. Like WTF you didn't know that ahead of time!

Give the buyer a 1 hr window to meet you.... if they are serious ,they will be there, if not... you only lost 1 hr out of your day...I dread selling my bikes.... somewhere, somehow... most people have lost common courtesy and decency....

As to common courtesy, another thing that really irritates me is friends/relatives who refuse to commit to anything. You plan something, and even tell them that you NEED to know if they will be there, and they still either say something like "I'll see what's up", or they don't bother to respond at all, then show up anyway.

And then, as I was about to give up trying to sell my car, some dude emails me yesterday with the old "is it still available?". I replied "yes", and figured that would be the last I heard from him. He asked if he could come see it, so I arranged to meet him a couple miles from my house. He actually showed up on time, and busted out laughing when I got out of my car. He said "I TOLD MY WIFE YOU'D BE ARMED!".
He was thrilled with the car, and gladly paid what I wanted for it. 🙂
