You said 1% of the population earned nearly 75% of the "new wealth" generated during the recent boom.

Can you please provide your source for that info?

I'm interested to know what that source considers "wealth". Is home equity wealth? Or is it only liquid assets? etc. And how they came to that conclusion.

Honest question, It would be nice if you could give me an answer.

Thanks for taking the time to post that link. It is very interesting.

However, No Spin Zone was talking about "new money" created during the recent economic boom (appx: 2002-2007, I assume). He said that the top 1% if income earners earned 75% of the "new money" during those years. And was using that stat to make the point that it wasn't real money, and led us to the current situtation, and was further using it to justify forcing the "rich" to bail us out...if they earned all the money during the boom, its fair that they pay to get us out of this mess. (I disagreed)

And I'd just like to get a source for that info. Because if he just made it up (which it appears that he did), his entire arguement goes up in flames.

Anyway, He cleverly said he read it in a "financial magazine"...couldn't remember the name, convenientyly....but that isn't going to cut it. Anyone could make any claim, and then say they read it in a "magazine" but couldn't remember the name...."just take my word for it" type of thing.

Here is one source, how accurate the comments are would have to be researched further.

Now you're being dishonest, Titan. I said in the other thread two sources where I saw the stat, now you're pretending it didn't happen in a new thread. Go back to the old one.

Yeah, you "saw" the stat, you expect me to take your word for it?

And Bill Maher? Really? Come on dude...what kind of source is a comedian?

This is the information age...endless information is at your finger tips...so prove it.

Provide me a link to the information.

This one time, I read "somewhere" that there are little green men on Pluto...seriously..I read that somewhere...I saw it on TV once too. (see how silly you sound?)

I'm asking you to back up your claim that it IS true...This isn't like "innocent until proven guilty"...when it comes to claims on the internet they are inherently "false until proven true". Just the way it works.

Burden of proof lies on you, my friend.

I can't claim there are little green men on Pluto...and then expect you to prove otherwise. Just like you can't expect me to prove your stat isn't true.

Burden of proof...on you.

if there were a book or magazine with that type of crazy information it would be all over the internet, and used in all sorts of blogs, and such, as well I have yet to see the name of the book, or the issue of the magazine you found that in.

I can claim all sorts of crazy things that are in books if I don't have to site them. I read in a book once that 99 percent of all diseases are spread by gay's. Now I can't give the name of the book or magazine, where to find it or any such thing but it was in a book so...

It made it onto Real Time with Bill Maher!

So what school do you go to, and what's your major? Or what's your real name?

Your going to take the words of a stand up comedian as factual? What episode was it in?

Then that's your choice. The reality is you're afraid to confront the issue because it hurts your point too much.

Does it mean they are always right?

Especially when you can't find proof of what they said was right? Just did a library search, that included journals and such for what you claimed as fact and not even a single journal clip came up with that information. That sinking ship you seem to be riding is looking worse and worse.

No, but the claim here is that it's not reliable simply because he's a comedian. Are you guys going back on that now?

Not only can we not find where he said it, but not a single library journal, magazine or book can be found with the information when I did a school library search on it...

Remember when I did not bail out of my ship and I followed it to the bottom of the ocean?

Would you like to do that or jump off now?

It's not that they're a comedian that is the issue...it's that you know damn well they aren't doing their own research, neither are they held to the same standards of integrity in reporting journalists are.

That is the issue...their job is to be funny and to cause controversy; whereas a true journalists' job is to accurately report the news.

Had you said, you'd heard it on the the CBS Evening News, or even from Katie Couric...it would have given you a bit more creditiblity.

But hearing it from Maher is just like hearing it from Leno or Letterman. Yeah, they say true stuff, but it's always with a spin, and they certainly aren't reporting the entire story.

just saying.

Since I don't have the time to waste reading umpteen pages of baiting & backbiting & putting aside NSZ's possibly untrue stats, just what exactly was your point in the first place? It seems to have gotten lost in the piling on.

It would be helpful if I knew which show it was on. It was definitely from this year, but I don't know if it was two weeks ago or five weeks ago.

And when I search for the actual information in text form on the internet, every time I put in "$800 billion" all I get are stories about the bailout, not the rest.
