Here was my Memorial Day experience. (Yes, I'm Canadian, but I was truckin down here.)See any dead bodies lying around? Or even a threat of one? Marias Pass in Montana, at 5213 feet. Almost no traffic, and what was there, was 99.9% well behaved. I ran from Sweetgrass Montana, and didn't see ONE Mt, Id, or Wa State trooper. Not even a county Mountie with anyone pulled over. Couldn't believe it, but there obviously was no reason to pull anyone over. 440 miles, and not ONE cop. US Customs people, everyone had time to smile and chat yesterday, and it was a holiday. Who the fuck wants to work on a holiday? Didn't seem to bother them, but no underlying "hemmed in" tension in their lives.
I don't agree that it's nothing new. Maybe not for places like Detroit and Medellin, but for Baltimore this is new. They're setting records. To say that it has nothing to do with recent events is denying the obvious. I wouldn't tag it to one thing specifically, like the Mayor, the DA, the cops, the citizens, gangsta rap, aspartame, global warming, etc.- rather the downward spiral of things working in concert.
Certainly some of the above named factors play harder than others.
Everything in life is what you make of it, and more often than not, people don't get along because of preconceived notions and stereotypes. Accepting people for WHO they are, rather than WHAT they are, goes a long way. Dealing with certain ethnic groups behind the wheel can be a nightmare, but as individuals, they're alright folk. Hard to separate the two at times, when group actions leave such a foul taste in your mouth, but I'm getting better at it
Pit Row
In terms of Baltimore setting records. They keep saying that and then they say.................since 1999. Baltimore isn't Chicago, but Baltimore has plenty of violence.

You SHOULD be focusing on the issue of the cops possibly having a voluntary work "slow down". That pretty much means that the cops are intentionally taking their time to answer calls in certain areas. If the cops really gave a damn they would have an initiative to retrain their officers and get them out in the community and working WITH the neighborhood residence instead of driving around acting like "overseers". That's just MHO.

New York City is a great example of touchy feely feel good policy gone wrong.
Guilliani was a hardass, no bones about it. Crime went down almost 70% with his policies. Lowest murder rates in NYC history.
All of his policies have been dropped, guess what? Crime is shooting upward again.
Police dont need to think about feelings. That gets you killed.
All of the liberal feel good policies end up screwing the good guy when its all said and done because we dont want to offend the criminal.
Baltimore is a shithole. Run by idiots and the only way to change that is to go in and have no mercy. Gulliaini did it in New York, it can be done elsewhere.
