Tragic.

I don't understand their culture.

No arrests says the article. What a mess.

Can't believe the liberal media isn't on hand thanking the mayor for doing such a good job. Still a week left in the month to break all previous death records. I'll bet the dumb bitch is proud of herself for throwing the entire police force under the bus.

Fellas, get real. This isn't anything new in these cities and it's not happening because of the mayor. Do you all know anything about Chicago or Baltimore???

All I know is, I'm glad I don't live there. I don't know how anybody does. The question is, how does this come to an end? How do we get people to stop shooting each other, for whatever reason?

They're both controlled by liberals, have liberal policies and have 'strict' gun control laws. What else is there to know?

No P I don't know much about Chicago and Baltimore, but it's not much different then NYC, I believe there were 19 shootings over the weekend, one fatal, and scooter5002 here is something I was thinking about after talking with my neighbor the other day, she is black and came from a bad part of queens New York, I'm white and came from Spanish Harlem, we were talking about where we came from and how we left because of the crime, I can't help but blame ourselves for leaving, if all the good hard working people would have stayed, would these areas be so bad? Is it our fault? White, black, Hispanic we all ran instead of protecting our neighborhood, I don't know, but this has been on my mind

Tony, I don't know, but is it self preservation? Do you just give up, because you feel it's hopeless? I've seen a lot of this continent, and while I can't explain it, it seems that the more room people have to be free, the nicer they are. Also, and call me crazy, the weather has an impact. I've been running Cali and the west the last month, and people are just so laid back and nice out here. Fuck, down east, people are uptight, and small issues are big problems. I'm no human behaviour specialist, but there's got to be a connection.

Here was my Memorial Day experience. (Yes, I'm Canadian, but I was truckin down here.)See any dead bodies lying around? Or even a threat of one? Marias Pass in Montana, at 5213 feet. Almost no traffic, and what was there, was 99.9% well behaved. I ran from Sweetgrass Montana, and didn't see ONE Mt, Id, or Wa State trooper. Not even a county Mountie with anyone pulled over. Couldn't believe it, but there obviously was no reason to pull anyone over. 440 miles, and not ONE cop. US Customs people, everyone had time to smile and chat yesterday, and it was a holiday. Who the fuck wants to work on a holiday? Didn't seem to bother them, but no underlying "hemmed in" tension in their lives.

It probably is self preservation? As normal people we want to raise our children in a safe environment, but I think that's the point I was trying to make, why didn't we stay and with other decent people we could have taken back the streets, but we didn't, we ran like cowards to a safe haven, my parents came here threw Ellis island, my dad from Italy and my mom from Britain, before it was Spanish Harlem it was the original little Italy as the Hispanics moved in the Italians ran, was it a ghetto when I was young? It was but it was safe, but slowly and surely we ran to, I eventually moved back to NYC but not the bad part of town, and I moved to the suburbs again to raise my children, my next door neighbor did the same thing, one good thing came out of this was that people of different colors can live together, I don't see people's color I see good and bad people, and as a side note, I miss growing up in east Harlem and sometimes think about moving back there, I remember Malcolm X, Bella Abzug, and Gloria Steinem who I had a massive crush on, I wouldn't trade growing up in NYC for the world, I have driven cross country 4 times and have been all over Europe, I love New York and wouldn't live anywhere else, sorry to get off track here, just had to get this off my chest

P-

I don't agree that it's nothing new. Maybe not for places like Detroit and Medellin, but for Baltimore this is new. They're setting records. To say that it has nothing to do with recent events is denying the obvious. I wouldn't tag it to one thing specifically, like the Mayor, the DA, the cops, the citizens, gangsta rap, aspartame, global warming, etc.- rather the downward spiral of things working in concert.

Certainly some of the above named factors play harder than others.

Tony, are you talking about the area that La Guardia came from? I watched a documentary on him a couple of months back, fascinating story. I didn't even know the airport was named after him, but after watching about 1 minute of the show, the light went on. Nothing gets by ol' scooter. Lol

Everything in life is what you make of it, and more often than not, people don't get along because of preconceived notions and stereotypes. Accepting people for WHO they are, rather than WHAT they are, goes a long way. Dealing with certain ethnic groups behind the wheel can be a nightmare, but as individuals, they're alright folk. Hard to separate the two at times, when group actions leave such a foul taste in your mouth, but I'm getting better at it

You make it sound like its no big deal and just like every other day. Maybe its normal behavior for you but I think its shameful how you try to downplay this ghetto culture as "nothing new" and acceptable in your eyes.

I doubt anyone knows, but how many criminal/forensic investigators do these big cities have? That many critically wounded/dead people in one weekend is ridiculous, and I don't get how they could even begin to prioritize one homicide (attempted or successful) over another when it's that high.

Has nothing to do with that either.

In terms of Baltimore setting records. They keep saying that and then they say.................since 1999. Baltimore isn't Chicago, but Baltimore has plenty of violence.

I'm not trying to justify anything, but you guys are acting like there have never been high murder rates in major cities. Sometimes they are up and sometimes they are down.

You SHOULD be focusing on the issue of the cops possibly having a voluntary work "slow down". That pretty much means that the cops are intentionally taking their time to answer calls in certain areas. If the cops really gave a damn they would have an initiative to retrain their officers and get them out in the community and working WITH the neighborhood residence instead of driving around acting like "overseers". That's just MHO.

Yes, without a doubt. The meteoric increase in violent crime is the fault of the cops.

Your opinion is garbage. Just an fyi... You cannot work WITH a community that does not WANT your presence there.
New York City is a great example of touchy feely feel good policy gone wrong.
Guilliani was a hardass, no bones about it. Crime went down almost 70% with his policies. Lowest murder rates in NYC history.
All of his policies have been dropped, guess what? Crime is shooting upward again.
Police dont need to think about feelings. That gets you killed.
All of the liberal feel good policies end up screwing the good guy when its all said and done because we dont want to offend the criminal.

Baltimore is a shithole. Run by idiots and the only way to change that is to go in and have no mercy. Gulliaini did it in New York, it can be done elsewhere.

Then maybe they should ACT like human beings. Until then, they are fucking animals and should be dealt with accordingly!

I disagree with your approach. I believe that you have to have laws in place and enforce them, but I also believe that you get better results when you work with the community than trying to work against them. At some point there will be backlash...............see Baltimore. The cops are not and should not be above the law.
