Market testing the lows from Oct

MDR tanked pretty much fifteen minutes after I bought in. Damn it. It should ride back up though. Seemed to be a lot of good news coming out of them lately.

So Wells Fargo does an amazing job at handling our money but I am wanting to mess around with a personal portfolio and try not to lose my money to quickly. Just wanting to learn more about it at the very least. I opened a TD Ameritrade account yesterday and just put 1k in it for the first deposit just to see how the transaction went but going to put another 5k in on Monday. I was told that trades are $6.95 but if you have atleast 3k in there you get 500 free trades. Is that accurate?

Cant speak on TD Ameritrade but Robinhood and some others have free trades. Robinhood even gives you a free stock for signing up (and gifts one to somebody else if you use their code)
Only thing is robinhood doesnt have the best charts, or really anything. It's just good for buying/selling with zero fees.
I have some money with etrade and I'll use their information, but buy with robinhood.

I think the promotions change from time to time. I use TD Ameritrade and got a few free trades at first. Looking at their site, I think the current promotion is deposit $3k and get 90 days free trading. They may be running another promotion, too, so 500 free trades may also be correct.

Thank you guys. I opened an account on Robinhood too after watching some YouTube about it. I got my daughter to sign up and got the free random stock for recommendations. Basically pick one out of 3 facedown cards. Could get lucky and pick one worth up to 1k. I drew a free Ford stock just shy of $10.
Good times.

My gold keeps breaking out. Only going to keep climbing as negative yielding bonds keep growing by the day. Who'd a thought that physical gold would yield more than a 30 year German bond? Haha, crazy times were in.

Now just waiting for silver to really start to join the party.

I sold my dnr shares today. Sad day, I had been hoping for a bounce back. Overall I think I lost around $1500.
I bought more today....

I might get back on if it starts trending up, but it has just been depressing. I bought at somewhere around 2.50 and it has been trending down for roughly four months. I don't have a lot of faith that the earnings report is going to be good. But I will still watch it closely

And it’s tanking. lol I read DNR lightened their debt, reduced operating expenses, and production was up at Bell Creek, so I was expecting a nice bump. Like TXDirt said before, it’s like catching a falling knife. I’ll continue to hold.

Nice bump on MTCH today after their earnings report yesterday. I sold for about a 28% gain. I plan to buy it back during the next dip.

These are definitely difficult markets. DNR is very very risky obviously. I've got a lot of money invested here. Could lose a lot of money on this bet. It's a long term play and bet that oil will come back up. No clue when that will happen. Could be 6 months (not likely) or it could be 18-36 months. I'm willing to hold this stock for three years - five years if necessary. And hopefully DNR can weather this storm and not go bankrupt. That's what I did last time and made a nice return. I've got even more invested now then before. I know I could lose a good chunk of money on this. And on the flip side I could maybe pay off my house in 3-5 years if this thing can just come back in the $4-$6 range anytime. But hell you can say that with any stock that gets hammered. It's a risk for sure.

I gotta wonder what the US economy would look like if so much wealth wasn't tied up/lost in the stock market. If that money was passed around or loaned out (to create interest income) how would that affect the low/middle class?

Also imagine going to a casino and they charge you to place a bet and charge you again whether you win or lose, you would probably be like wtf

How far will Tesla fall after the Walmart solar panel fires? I want tp get in around 200 but it might hedge itself with new factory in India.

It dropped all it's going to drop over the Walmart news yesterday. I expect it to be going up again around Q3 earnings call, and the GF3 is almost ready to start spitting out 3s and Ys. Absolutely amazing how fast they threw that monster together. Here's some good fanboi reading:
