1. What type of machining do you do? automotive/custom/factory/ etc
Vacuum form and injection molding tools, and custom one off parts for machines.
2. How long have you been in machining?
25 years
3. What education did you complete for your career?
OTJ training
4. Which do you work with most, CNC or manual?
Both, but mostly CNC
5. How much time do you spend on set up?
15-30 minutes
6. Has being a machinist been helpful in other areas?
Yes. I can repair and make shafts and other machine parts quick, and more cheaply. Plus a better understanding of manufacturing
7. Do you believe machining is a stable career?
Yes, but I'd make sure you learn the programming side of CNC machining. Anyone can push buttons, but for CNC machining programming is a huge plus
8. Was machining your first career choice?
No
9. What first made you interested in machining?
Making patterns by hand was too time consuming to stay competetive.
10. Would you select this career again?
Yes.
