Has anyone reported this yet?

NEW YORK (AP) - Herschel Walker is starting a new career in mixed martial arts.

The 47-year-old former NFL running back said Monday that he has signed a multi-fight contract with promoter Strikeforce. Walker will begin a 12-week training camp next month in San Jose, Calif. The 1982 Heisman Trophy winner already holds a fifth-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Isn't Tae Kwon Do all jumping and spinning and shit? It's not very effective in a real fight. It's mainly effective only in fights against other people who are following the rules of TKD.

If you're good at it, grappling is not too necessary, but you'd better be "REAL" good.

If he fights any real fighters he will get his ass handed to him, 47 is too old to start an mma career, even if you are Herschel Walker.

Honestly, Taekwondo wont do him much good in a MMA match, a good stand up fighter will get inside of him.

He knows more then just Teakwon Do.

Most guys can weather the first couple of kicks then its usaaully to the ground where a good chits fighter will own him.

His name is Machida, he started training Karate at the age of three, not TKD, he has also been training MMA since he was seventeen, Tae Kwon do is a good as Ballet for MMA. The NFL dude doesnt stand a chance.

Lyota Machida has a Karate background but is also trained in Muay Thai, Jujitsu, boxing, kickboxing and wrestling.

While I'll agree that TKD alone isn't going to get you far in MMA, the poor sap on the end of this vid might disagree about it's effectiveness.

Being bi-polar may work to his advantage. He could be losing and losing confidence, then another personality takes charge and starts kicking ass.

47 years old and is just now starting serious MMA training?

Is he even going to get sanctioned?

Couture is up there in age but he's proven and has trained MMA his entire life.

Next thing you know Greg Lloyd is going to join MMA. He's a Master instructor in TKD, already.

On top of the karate, I'm pretty sure he has black belts in BJJ & Shot, and was big in Sumo as a kid.

How about giving some better examples of karate in MMA. Gerard Gordeau, Keith Hackney and even Chuck Liddell to an extent are better examples than this. Read up on the real story behind Ettish's poor performance here. Ettish would rape you in a fight.

seems to be an example of the NFL retirement package. I mean, if I was 47, and needed money, i'd train 12 months to get the snot kicked out of me for a few matches as well..
