Terrible to hear. I’m not a huge basketball fan. But he was an amazing player. Only 41 years old. An entire life ahead of him and all the money to take care of many generations of his family.

Life gone in an instant.

RIP.

Just heard that it was him, his 13yo daughter, another player from his daughter’s AAU team, and one of that player’s parents. Plus the pilot for a total of 5.

He and his daughter Gianna just flew into our little airport a few weeks ago to watch one of our local high school kids play a game. He’d promised his daughter Gianna that he’d take her to see Hailey Van Lith play and they showed up at tiny little Cashmere High.

I just saw this on a news report on youtube , and thought it was a hoax. Man , what a damn shame!! I don't follow basket ball , but know damn well , that man was / is a legend in that game. Only 41 years old too. RIP Kobe and his little girl , and the other's on board.

Celeb deaths usually don't get to me but damn this is tragic and crushing. Guy was amazing to watch. Prayers for his family and the other victims

Visibility was bad this morning reports indicate pilot was trying to use the 101 fwy to navigate and slammed into hillside. Terrain comes up quick in that area.

It was very foggy this morning but who knows if that was the cause of the crash or not, time will tell. You can see his flight path on flightaware where he took off from Orange County this morning and flew up to LA where they circled around the LA Zoo area for about 10 minutes. Not sure why they were circling around for 10 minutes but it could have been to figure out the best (clear) path into the Thousand Oaks area.

Now they are saying 9 people were on board...

Not a big Kobe fan, but how devastating for his family and those others that lost their loved ones.

Said it was a Sikorsky heli. Another report was that he owns one so assuming it was his?.

Just the night before LBJ passed his record. Dude tweeted out congrats to LBJ immediately. Sad day for sport.

It looks to me like they were circling around for 10 minutes just south of the Burbank Airport which could mean they were debating landing at Burbank due to heavy fog or issues with the aircraft. But they continued on and flew up North of the valley near the 118fwy and then came back down to the 101fwy where they crashed shortly after.

This was the aircraft and I believe he owned it:

As a 29 year old who grew up watching every game, this one hurts.
