How can I remove rust from a blade? I have hardly used it and was a gift from my wife. Custom blade
and spray it ballstole, but still having issues. Any suggestions?

Camping fuel or lighter fluid works for me. Varsol is fine as well.

Why does the surface look pitted even where there is no rust? Did the knife maker use some old recycled steel for the blade? Used to be a local guy here in Texas who would make knives from saw blades picked from saw mills. Good stuff, but not stainless.

Any way to "season" it like you would a piece of cast iron? Wipe it with some oil and heat it?

Or just keep some corrosion X around to wipe it down with frequently.

I sprayed some more ballstole on it and in the holster right before taking the picture. I am going to do some more scrubbing tonight and see where I end up, but the seasoned idea is interesting. The knife is not from a well known maker but a good knife maker. Idaho knife works. Check them out and he made all the knifes in the Leonardo DiCaprio revenant movie.

Nice stuff there. Hand forged steel, so just keep oil on it. Lots of oil!

Unfortunately, I am learning that lesson about forged steel. On a positive note, I could hopefully use this learning experience to convince the wife I need a replacement.

Finer knives often use a high-carbon steel instead of stainless because it will take a sharper edge. The drawback is rust. Keep it clean!

Try a wadded up piece of aluminum foil. Works on chrome rims.
