Question is: Would you rather work a job you dislike at a greater pay and have more free time for hobbies and family or a job you really like, for more hours per week, at a lower pay rate with very little free time?
Thoughts?
Thoughts?
I couldn't imagine going back to working 5 days a week. Plus I have a newborn, so I definitely wouldn't want to spend 5 days away from him.
Is your best day at work equal to a day with your family/traveling/moto/whatever the hell you enjoy? If your answer is yes, then take the lower paying job that you love. If the answer is no, then take the higher paying job so you can afford the things you love and have the time to do them.
Only real question in this scenario to me is which job makes you more stressed. If your high paying, low hour job mentally drains you a significant amount more than the other job, id weigh that in heavily. If not, seems like a no brainer to me.
The Shop
Now, I just work a straight forty (when we’re not slow)
and have afternoons and weekends to myself.
More time for hobbies costs more money. Titanium is freaking expensive along with dive gear. My position pays well so, it could be worse.
I’d choose the first scenario.
It doesn’t have to be one extreme or the other
And I am hiring if you know anyone wanting to work in a great company/service team and they can have all this above.....got to live in WI..

If I owned my own business and loved it, the money would take care of itself.
I'm thinking about a career change in a few years. I've been with the DoD in some form since I was 18.
“Gas” as in natural gas, biogas...not gasoline.
I don't put in near the hours my contractors do, but they make more than me, at least that's the assumption.
Pit Row
I’d rather work less hours and make more memories with friends, family, and on the bike
But also I don’t dislike my day job in any way. I enjoy it, So that’s cool too.
For sure is a balance. I didn’t have a balance it was just go to work when called. And they called constantly. Now it’s like....ahh...I need to get some rental properties and develop passive income and enjoy my family. Although rentals aren’t Easy
Who said - “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”?
I probably wouldn’t show up to work if they weren’t paying me but I actually enjoy my work - most days anyway.
That’s with everything though. If we spent every day at home doing whatever it is we would do with our free time, it would be the same way! Some days are easier than others.
And to GeorgiePorgie, the rental house thing isn’t easy either. It can really stress you out. Make sure if you do decide to do it, TAKE YOUR TIME finding GOOD tenants. Do VERY thorough background checks and sometimes you have to be a dick, but it’s just covering your own ass. If you try to help people in the rental thing, you’ll get fucked.
I learned somewhat the hard way. Now I know why they do extremely thorough checks with tenants. But I wanted to be nice and give someone a chance...
I’m good, but I just could’ve gotten much better, less stressful tenants ya know? I’m not looking forward to a future out of state eviction
But on the flip side, all everyone does is point out all the bad parts to try to talk people out of it. If you find good tenants, and get a couple houses together, a duplex here and there, you can really have some badass passive income!
