I’m having my kitchen renovated and I’m installing and under counter ice maker and I need some help. I might need to purchase a drain pump but it’s on backorder so I’m thinking I can use a “universal” pump instead? The model is a GE UNC15JII and it can drain by gravity feed or by pump. The pump is expensive and I would rather just use gravity fed tubing so if any of you guys can steer me in the right direction I would appreciate it!

If you can get at your drain pipe, and it's lower than the drain in your icemaker, you should be able to penetrate the pipe, tap some threads, and be golden.

How big is the icemaker drain tube?

For 50-60 bucks, you can get an A/C condensate pump that will do 10 gallons per hour at 20' of head.
(You could pump it to the second floor)

If it’s a standard ice maker machine, like I’m thinking, we usually set those up to drain into a floor sink.
We use 1/2” or 3/4” PVC. Coming out of the machine, I’ll use an adapter. Then build a trap with a tee used in the outlet side. Depending on your elevation, you may be able to tie into the tail piece of your kitchen sink trap using a wye branch tail piece like what is used for a dishwasher.

Excuse the chicken scratch schematic. My 30* paper is at work. This should give you an idea of what you need to do. Perhaps drilling the cabinet to give the line a pathway through to the trap on your sink. Use iron pipe size escutcheons to cover the holes and give it a cleaner look 1/4” per ft grade and you’ll be fine. Yes, I’m a commercial plumber and, I occasionally set trim.

Damn guys, you are totally awesome and that’s going to help a bunch. I was really concerned about the connection piece to the existing drain pipe and if that was possible but you guys have figured that out for me so thanks. The stupid GE pump is over $600 bucks and that can now be spent on a the next project bike👍🏻
