The egg count has been a bit low lately, now I know why.

Is the paper towel for grip or you don't like the feel of snakes?

Actually that prick had eaten 5 other fake eggs just like that and puked 'em back up at his nest. (actually not sure if he puked 'em or passed 'em, I just found them covered with a weird dried up slime layer over them) That egg didnt kill him, a shovel to the head was the cause of death.

We've lost 8 chickens this year between a damn bull snake and a hawk. We've had to redo the whole inside of our cage to help keep the snake out. The neighbors have lost around 6 or so as well.

We are trying to keep our chickens cooped up for around a month or so, in hopes that the hawk will find a better feeding ground.

Poor snake! He was just hungry.

Between me and my misses we got 3 corn snakes and a 12ft Common Boa:

Though she's more interested in large rats than chicken eggs lol.

Our neighbor lost 11 chickens last week due to a raccoon. I was unaware raccoons did that, but apparently they do. Not sure if it was the same coon, but had one jump out at me last weekend throwing my trash away...hate it for the guy, but a lesson was learned by him that night.

I also learned not to walk in the woods at night with shorts on... poison ivy all around my ankles/legs

Don't take this the wrong way (not a snake person) I just don't understand having them as a pet. Cool to look at I guess and hopefully from a distance. I wont harm them if their not harming me, but I want no part of them.

I get it. I touched a snake once actually it was more like holding a part of it and never again. It was this zoo attraction/demonstration thing at school during the summer month and since it was free we thought mind as well check it out.

They asked for volunteers to come on stage for the next demonstration so of course you think it's going to be something cool so up we go on stage and that's when they said they were bringing out a snake. For the record I didn't like snakes before that but was always curious as to what they feel like. I was thinking well it can't be that big but soon thought to myself why is there like 8-10 of us on stage.

Fucking guy comes out with this massive 15-20 foot long snake. Can't remember what kind it was but I know it was big, greenish/black and spotted similar to the one Spydee posted.

Snakes as pets. No thanks.

Cottonmouths are the worst man. No warning and they will seek you out. Speaking of antivenin, I have no doubt of the cost. Ive posted about it before, but had a pt who was bit by a pygmy rattler and just with me, went through around 20 units of Cro-fab(some there, heli flight, and me). A unit here is 10-15K. Saved his life and arm though.

My Ball Python was sick as! He was a foster pet. Would of never bought a snake but I quickly grew to love little Mr. Slithers

He sucked at hide and seek though

Central Texas, gotta go with salt and pepper rub. All that sauce shit just hides the real taste. Wink

Each to their own I suppose. I never really had much of an opinion of them myself before I met my missus. She's proper into her reptiles so I just kinda went with the flow and got stuck in with helping maintain them - hell I had to build a 4ft high/wide vivarium for her BOA just a few weeks ago. They're cool to look at but even cooler to hold. I actually find it really therapeutic! Nothing scary about them at all imo.

JRT next time you come to the UK I'll change your opinion of them haha!

Like HarrybacBRO I have always been around rattlers, and they don't bother me. Like he said though, sometimes they don't give a fuck and will not let you know when you're too close. That being said, I killed my fair share in our yard back in the day. One particularly big fucker I got was a good 7-8ft long. Dizzy

My cousin had a Burmese Python that started out at a foot long, and ended up being 13ft. That thing was a docile as any snake could be. It would just kick it on the couch with you and watch tv, and he even slept with it most nights. #NOPE

Boas are really cool. I had a sand boa as a pet in college, but unfortunately the little bugger only lasted like 3 months.
