Shame that the video ended where it did. The upcoming trestle is the tallest wooden trestle in the United States. 200' high 600' long. Built back in the 30s I believe. No longer maintained and sketchy AF. I do believe there is a group dedicated to trying to maintain it.

I rode out there with a friend on mountain bikes a couple years back. It's about a 20 mile ride round trip from the gas station off the 8 freeway. There are some sketchy areas, particularly when crossing the little trestles, but not that bad really. The Goat Canyon trestle is really impressive and images don't really do it justice!

The latest I heard was that a company bought the rights to the railroad and were fixing it up to be used again; but they've fallen into financial issues since. I've also heard that they are much more strict about it now and you can get a pricey ticket if they catch you out there. You're basically trespassing on railroad property and it's illegal. But if you ignore that risk, you definitely want to go in the winter months when it's not 120 degrees out!

Here are a few images:

Considering the timeframe and tools available at the time; structures like that and the men who designed and built them humble me bigtime.

The Roman aqueducts are a little more impressive IMO. Quite a bit older and still in a better state of repair.

I didnt say that bridge was the greatest human accomplishment of all time, I didnt cite nor diminish any other structure(s) of antiquity, I was only commenting on the bridge in those pictures.

One of the more impressive facts about The Trestle is that they didn't use any nails in its construction.

Ha!! I did the same exact thing. We've crossed some of the lines racing down in District 38. Didn't even know the historical relevance.
