Struggled with this for years and lately it's been ridiculous and really taking the fun out of a day of riding. What do you guys do or not do? And yes I've heard of melatonin.

We’ll not an issue lately but I used to start trying to get 8 hours of rest a night 3 nights before a race cause I know I don’t sleep for shit the night before. Like stocking up on rest before you need it. Something to try good luck. I could never sleep before a race either but that helped. And more water than normal starting a few days before too

Sumdood has it right about hydration and rest. As for the night before I take a couple generic benadryl if necessary to get my eyes closed. After that I'm good to sleep through. Also I'm 49 right now. Night before the race I gotta stop taking fluids several hours before bed otherwise I wake up to piss 2x or more

I've always had trouble with math, women, and patience, but never sleep.

I use these. Puts me to sleep and I don’t feel groggy when I wake up. All natural, love hammer nutrition.

Unrelated but my wife snores so bad I am really struggling. She thinks it is my problem as she can sleep right through it.

Weed
Talk to doctor about it, maybe he can prescribe some light valium for night before.

This works for some and others make it worse, run the next day's track (or any) through your head over and over until you fall asleep.

It's like the counting sheep jumping a fence thing, just in what may work in your head. No race, just ride the track.

$11 for shipping on their site if you don't spend 100 bucks. Holy shit. Do you have a promo code I can use?

No codes but they have a lot of good products that will help you throughout race day. A lot of the top guys use their stuff including old timers like Jeff Ward. Check out some of their products, ya might find something else that will help you too.

Funny thing is, I can't sleep at all unless I hear my Lady snoring. Puts me right to sleep for some reason. On the nights she is restless and not snoring I can't sleep for shit. hahaha

There's probably a local bicycle shop around you that carries Hammer Nutrition products, call around.

Oh so am I, but the snoring actually doesn't bother me. My stepson is a type 1 diabetic and we have to keep her phone on non-silent mode so we can hear if he is going too low or high, so I hear her phone make noise all night long. THAT wakes me up more than anything.

@alph Go get a CPAP before her heart enlarges. And you’ll sleep well too.

@OP are you drinking alcohol the night before you go riding ? Why are you up ? You just like a 6 year old kid excited ? Or what ?

My wife is amazing. She can snore with her mouth closed.

I try not to drink or eat a ton of crap the night before. More the latter, excitement.

if you have a problem getting to sleep, do you read books? i started a few months ago and I can only manage a hand full of pages before I zonk out. Definitely don't have that phone in your hands in bed either.

To be perfectly honest, a little weed or a small glass of scotch after dinner.

If neither are your thing, try doing a high cardio workout. Then try to go to sleep early. Drink a glass of water, turn off your lights, no stimuli like tv or phone and just try to sleep.

Usually works for me fwiw.

Have you tried just benadryl? can start at 25mg or 50mg. Some people claim they wake up groggy though.

There was a Jody's Box I read back in the day that said something along the lines of "Why go to bed at 10 when you know you won't sleep until 1?". I had that problem too.

That's actually a really good one. For some people, knocks em right out.

Advil PM is good, too. You don't get the grogginess like Benadryl.

Haven't been to the track since I made this thread. But I found these at the grocery store and they seem to work good. They have a bit more kick than the melatonin that melts in your mouth
