I need a 8,000w generator or bigger. Generac has a model GP8000E (E is for electric start) that is enough to do what I need around $1,000. That's my budget for now.

Anybody have a brand preference on a >8,000w generator. Anything other than electric start I should consider?

Is that the 2 stroke or 4 stroke. . . because it'll be spewing well before it hits 4 strokes.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, the mother fucker 8,000. It’s lacking a couple of “bolt ons” that would make it peelout approved but it has enough “outlets” to “service” my “tool”.

I have some kind of big bastard in the garage that my dad gave me , we lost power for about 12 hours last night but my house doesnt have the hook to plug in yet.

In Michigan without power as I type this. I have a 15 year old 7500W Generac humming along. Been bulletproof since day one.

So I’m pushing a welder with the generator. We are welding our dock back together. I have a 220v 30a welder and it pushed it without any problems. I also have two other odd jobs lined up to do that I’ll have to use the generator for.

So far I’m very happy with its capabilities.

Yeah. I saw one multi fuel generator but it was an order only item. I needed something today and I liked what I read about the generac brand.

Hope you have the main disconnected while backfeeding.
If not it may result in some undesired results when the power is restored.

Oh yes sir, absolutely. Main is off. Had a licensed/insured electrician install a transfer switch and box. It's safe and passed inspection. Been a pretty flawess system for me. Still no power here but, hoping for it to be on soon.

My experience with gen's is not good. A friend of mine has 2. 1 was a Harbor freight cheepy and the other was a Yamaha. He used the Yamaha once and 6 months later it wouldn't start. That's when he bought the cheepy. It worked new but 6 months later would not start. My neighbor has a Honda. Used it twice and now it won't put out any power. It starts but that's it.

The friend that has the Yamaha and cheepy installed a Generac at his parents home in Oklahoma which has frequent outages. It has been flawless for 5 years.

New generator story. My neighbor has a Honda EU 2000i. Had it for 2 years and rarely used it. When he did,it was to power small small appliances and stuff at garage sales. It quit working the other day. It would start and run but no power. He took to the dealer and the estimate was over $600.00 for repair. He said it was probably the inverter. $400.00 for new inverter. They also charged him $50.00 to tell him that.
He paid $1100.00 for this generator/inverter and it's dead in 2 years with limited use? I'm going to take a look at it later today to make sure it's not something simple like a bad circuit breaker. In the meantime I will ask him to write the factory and see what they can do. I've heard stories about Honda's factory support though and they were not good.

Ask him if he had something plugged in when he started it up. That will kill the regulator damn near every time.
Even if the thing dies from a stall or running out of gas. Be sure and unplug everything before restarting.

I opened it up today. Started it and plugged in a shop light. Started wiggling wires till the light came on. It was one wire that had broken off in the connector coming from the inverter. $23.00 for the sub harness. 5 min to install. We went to the shop that quoted him the $600.00 to see if he could order the harness. He wasn't real happy and basically blew us off. I noticed he had a Maserati in his parking space. Had to be his, nobody else was there. What a piece of shit.

We had a generac on the motorhome. Old timer in the campground told me that because of the constant rpm, the carbon build up is terrible. Every few months take an old windex bottle, fill with water, spray some water in the intake while it's running. Cleans the carbon out. Had zero problems with that generator for 20 years till we sold the motorhome. And it was running like a top when we sold it.

Gonna do it this summer when I move the cattle pens to a different location. Been covered up with putting up fence on a new rent pasture and calves are hitting the ground. Spent literally all last weekend trying to save one, but unfortunately she didnt make it. Too many projects. Dizzy

I've owned the Honda EU6500 over 10yrs now. It's now a EU7000 and has EFI. I'd like to upgrade to that as the only issue I've had is getting the carb rebuilt a few times due to crap gas.

Lost power last year for 6 days. It ran nonstop the entire time. Powered my whole house (obviously not everything at the same time). We could run all the small stuff like TVs, computers, wifi, ceiling fans, lights, fridge... basically almost anything 120v and then one major appliance (water heater, AC, Range, Oven, etc... all at same time. The thing never skipped a beat. I've even charged my Tesla with it.

On top of all that it's super quiet. Built for RV use.

HIGHLY recommend!

I'm surrounded by Honda EU2000's. My neighbor's unit with the bad wire is running fine now. My daughter's boyfriend is a desert racer and has 2 of them. Went to see an old friend the other day. The subject of generators came up and he said his wouldn't start. Went to the garage to check it out. Another goddam EU2000. Took it home and went through the carb. Runs fine now. My neighbor wants me to put up a sign: Custom guitars and Honda generator repair. It actually seems like a pretty good unit. The only problem, mainly for people who don't read manuals, is the label on the choke is confusing.
