Honest question here. Why are the taco's so popular? They look cool for sure, but I never saw a purpose in them when compared to other trucks. Why not get the Tundra instead of the taco for truck purposes?
i rode in my friends brand new 4-door Tacoma to StGeorge and back (about 650 miles) and didn't enjoy it at all. they're small inside like a car or SUV (i'm 6'2), the speed limit is 80mph so he was doing 85 and the thing felt like it was just pegged the entire time to keep up speed. just wasn't a comfortable feeling to me. as an everyday jump-around-town driver i think the Tacoma would be amazing.

My dad bought a Dodge D50 in 1977-78? because he didn't want to use his daily driver as a weekend haul trash, run errands, work vehicle. I was in high school and he let me use it. It was made my Mitsubishi. That was one hell of a little truck. Never had a single problem.

Sumdood, my grandfather had on of those Isuzu's as a work truck, too. Never had any problems with it, either.

If you are only gonna tow a 2 horse with tack room (we had one until recently) you could easily get by with any of the newer gassers. Chevy's gasser is very good and my 6.4 Hemi is a great engine. (I have 4.10 gears) Cant speak to the naturally aspirated Ford gasser but Ford has always made good products. I will say up front that a gasser will not, and does not, perform like the newer diesels, but they are 7-8 thousand dollars cheaper just for the engine alone, and they dont have all those endless diesel emission hassles and you wont hafta put DEF fluid in the thing all the time either. I sold my 2009 Dodge diesel for that very reason, nothing but trouble and the damn thing went into limp mode once and stranded me without warning and racked up a 7K bill to fix it. (fortunately it was under warranty but they said next time it would be on me to pay for) All three of the OEMs putting out big diesels have their own set of problems due to that whole emissions thing. (hell even tractors and other diesel equipment have it now and likewise are suffering for it). There will always be folks who simply have to have the torque and power the diesels provide so they just hafta tolerate the other hassles as part of doing business. But for folks who tow intermittently, you can get by with a gasser if you want to go that route. I pull 5 to 6 ton loads all the time with my 6.4 Hemi. Oh, if you plan on towing in mountains or lots of big hills/grades, the gassers do struggle in that setting and the turbo diesel will perform much better.

In any event, good luck with whatever you decide. There is no doubt the new diesels are mega beasts in the torque dept if you go that route.

This was the small 2 horse slant load with tack room we sold.

This is the 24' Delco we use now.

This was 5 tons of sod plus 5K for the trailer for a total of 7+ tons and pulled it just fine with the Hemi.

These 5 roll loads arent any problem at all.

This 8 roll load was pushing it (right at 9 tons) and I wont do that too often with this truck.

Thanks for the info JAFO92, that is pretty much the type of trailer my wife wants to get

A year ago, I had a 2007 Tundra and loved it, but with the deal I got, I couldn't pass up going newer. My wife and I both drove a 2016 F150(V8) and a 2016 Tundra. We liked them both, but decided to go with the Ford simply because there weren't enough changes to the Tundra and the F150 just seemed to be a bit peppier than the Tundra. I didn't consider the Ecoboost at all. I'm not wild about turbos, call me old. Just can't wrap my brain around the extra possibility of going Boom! I do think that either way you go, you'll love it. They are both very nice riding and have a ton of standard amenities. The F150 was a bit better with the MPG. I get about 21-22 on open road at 60mph. I get about 14 when I tow my 17.5ft boat, or my trailer full of wood, lawn mower, etc.
Here is one thing to think about that you didn't mention. I did check before I bought, but in 2015 when the F150 went aluminum, it was the first time EVER that another truck cost more to insure than the Tundra! Granted, it was only about $75/yr more, but it took a big jump due to the aluminum.

After doing some searching on the internet and taking some test drives, we decided on getting the Ford.

Engine to engine I'll take my 2015 5.0 over any other truck motor period. It's very very underrated for daily driving. I don't tow though.

I work with a lot of people who own every brand of truck. The eco's go in for the most work by far.

Best all around (longevity, trade-in value) is the Toyota. Best looking is that sexy Dodge. Ford is usually cheapest out the door. Chevy is over priced and ugly as a baboons ass.

BAM!
Your selection will give you the luxury of a Family vehicle and a towing /Hauling vehicle comfort no other Truck can give.

The FORD engine gives you some torque and MPG no other can give while towing.

Mike explains it best.

I'm an aggressive driver but when hauling I let the truck do what it wants to, when hauling over MTN passes I can out haul the trucks hauling more weight then I just giving the truck what it wants and that's a driver that wants to get where he's/ she going faster than the driver that has time to spar. Enjoy your new ride and keep us Truck enthusiast how you like your purchase.

Have you seen the prices for the new Fords? Ford guy here, but will admit they didn’t come close to the chevy prices.

Love that blue color. They had one in the darker blue at the dealership. I love that color, but the package that came with it was $5K more so I declined.

I'm on my 4th Tacoma, drove my 94 to 450,000km, then my 04 to 320,000. Bought a 2010 with 130,000 on it and drove it to 190,000, traded it in for exactly what I had paid for it and bought my 2012.

I love those trucks and I'll be getting another one for my next truck, reliable as all hell, extremely capable off-road and fun to drive. That's all I need!

The wife found a trailer she liked, so we picked it up yesterday.
