I keep seeing statements that these things are the biggest wasps in the world, but the cicada killers we've got over here dwarf them as best as I can tell.

The first time I saw a cicada killer I thought it was fake and someone was playing a joke on me.

Wherever those things are I'm gonna stay the hell away

This seems pretty bogus. I do not have any first hand experience with murdering assault hornets. But I've heard they kill 50 people per year, and they don't attack unless provoked. I hope we can keep them under control.

Careful now we all were saying the shit about covid in the beginning. And it’s killed billions already. So by time we kill
Off covid we probably should just stay inside and wear anti sting suits, otherwise it will get bad.

The memes are great. I agree with Moto T's assessment of the cicada killers- those things are ridiculous.

Sumdood- those Oz monkeys are the stuff of my childhood nightmares. Them and the Abominable Snowbeast from Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Getting stung by the Hornets we already have in this country sucks, I know first hand, one got me years ago fishing in a Bass Tournament.

Really georgieporgie, Billions?

Billions????

I guess technology hasn't been perfected yet to correct CNN math.

But these hornets are some scary looking things.

Stinger about 1/4" long, can sting through kevlar, can sting 200 times (not a barbed stinger), and a very painful sting.

And even without the threat to causing us harm, 5he are a very serious threat to bees and the important part they play in agriculture and food production.

These hornets can apparantly bite a bees head off, in the air.

Poor bees.

First all their buds just started disappearing with no trace or explanation, "hey, anybody seen Bob the bee?" Only to hear "dude, him and 90% of yhe hive left and just never came back."

Now the poor little bee is just buzzing along, minding his own beeusiness, and some damn monster comes swooping in and bites his freaking head off without even saying "howdy!"

You have 15 wasps , and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.

One thing I'm interested in is , I know these things love to go after the honey bees , but if it hasn't happened yet , they may be in for a big surprise when they mess with yellow jackets. They too sting multiple times and are angry little bastard's. Not sure if they have yellow jackets in Japan , but here , we get some huge swarms / nests. When I was 10 , I spent 3 days in the hospital because I bumped my head on a nest I didn't see. Got stung over 150 times and got sick from all the venom.

And there goes Jeffro. One of God's own prototypes. A super high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
