I have huge respect for our troops that are serving abroad. They are doing the job they signed on to and sometimes don't agree with the rationale or reasoning of these wars they are having to deal with. But why is it that every time someone speaks of our troops engaged in a war, they use the typical phrase "Fighting for our freedom" when it's clearly not the case in today.

That's a political slogan and it does piss me off.

It pisses me off for our military personnel because it's sometimes (not always), but lately usually a lie.

I'd say that going to Afghanistan to take out the Al Qaeda and the Taliban was about defending the US. Everything else that's happened in the last decade has been about politics.

It would be political suicide if a politician said something else. If Obama/any other candidate said they aren't fighting for our freedom how do you think it would end?

Kind of like when a sports team wins a game in regular season, they are 'playing for the championship'....

In a sense, they are fighting for our freedom.

I always worry about ulterior motives when somebody ties to rally a group.

While it may not be clear to everyone or anyone in America. It's a hornets nest next to the hen house that is getting out of hand. If ignored, we wont have a hen house and the hornets will be in the kitchen.

Remember, America isn't at war, the military is. America is at WalMart.

The military industrial complex needs good slogans/propaganda to keep itself fed.

Yes. They are preserving freedom for "working families".

Right on jmar.

It pisses me off big time when i see our servicemen and women maimed knowing they should have never gone to Iraq in the first place. Afghanistan was a good call for the first six to twelve months max but we should have left that shit hole of a country right after that.

In the US we don't have the funds to keeps schools and hospitals open or teachers employed but we have the money to make the war machine billions. Add to that a totally inept foreign policy and it is a huge train wreck any way you slice it IMO..

We are spending 6.7 billion a month in Afghanistan, and it's not employing that many people.

Making a selected few very rich though.

i wonder if the employment numbers would improve , if every month , the government gave a million different people 6700 bucks instead .

I watched that awhile ago, really surprised me. I was really young when he was in office so I didn't know that much about him.
