anyone pick this up yesterday? i pre-ordered it and it downloaded while i was at work yesterday so i got to go home and play it all night. and i mean all night, i finally turned it off to go to bed at 1:30 this morning, fuckin' game is addicting. i only played FC4 a little bit (didn't love it) and skipped Primal, so my FarCry fix has been low since FC3. i loved FC3.

anyway, i'm loving it so far. one of the things i read in reviews is that they (reviewers) were talking down on it because you can have companions (soldier, dog, other character, etc) join you and that it took away from the feel... i feel like it was a great addition. you can be more strategic when attacking a large group or going into an outpost. i set my buddy in some bushes on one side and went in loud on the other. they started coming my way and i turned him loose on them and there was mass confusion among the enemy. it was rad.

i also really like the perk system, i like not having to grind to craft everything in my arsenal but instead complete challenges to gain perks and spend them in the perk system. still new to it but it seems like a big step up to me.

anyway just really digging it so far (only done a few main story missions and mainly just fucking around) and was curious if anyone else was playing.

Downloaded the digital version and started playing right at 9 on Monday night. I played Primal a little bit, but didn't get very close to beating the game. Some of the mechanics are similar, like the buddy system(though it was animals in Primal), and the weapon/crafting wheel is nearly the same also. I do like that they took out the stupid towers that opened up the map in Primal and previous games.

I'm digging the gameplay so far. The only thing I don't like about the Perk system is the challenges needed to get Perk points. Kind of forces you to do things in the game that don't really involve the story line at all. I shouldn't have to catch fish when it has no advantage to game play other than perk points. Seems like they could've worked on that system a little more. It's also damn hard to hunt in the game. You'd think a white tail deer would go down pretty quick with an AR, but you chase the damn thing through the mountains and run through 3 mags before he drops. Bears are even worse. Cougars seem to be the easiest thing to kill so far, but I haven't gone after any turkeys or birds yet.

Have you had the freaky ghost lady show up and start rambling random shit at you yet? Freaked me out the first time I saw it. All I saw was a person, then POOF, green mist everywhere. She showed back up after I cleared a little cabin and disappeared when I tried hitting her with my shovel.

I've only played FC3. It was one of my favorite games. I am going to pick up FC5 after the price drops. I just don't have a ton of time to game right now. Hopefully I will soon.

I received my special edition game yesterday but haven't had the chance to play it yet. I'm a fan of the series and played all of them except for Primal. I just had no interest in that one.

Really looking forward to playing this game but it probably won't be until Saturday.

From what Iv'e heard it's supposed to run really well on both consoles and PC (even older hardware), so that's encouraging for me with my 970. Definitely want it. Would really like VR support at some point too as FC3 on Oculus is amazing even on my ageing card. If I get it I'll definitely finish it - Iv'e developed a nasty habit of starting these massive games and then running out of steam 30 hrs in etc. Completed 2, 3 and 4, skipped Primal.

all good points. i haven't spent too much time with the perks, but i like that i'm not out spending hours hunting to try to craft an ammo belt or something like that from FC3.

the hunting is a pain because the animals are bullet sponges. my sniper rifle will drop a dude with a chest shot, but if i line up a perfect shot on a deer it runs like it never got hit. the Wolves are super easy to drop though, 2 shots with a pistol and they're down. the turkeys are a pain in the ass, i actually got killed by one last night. killed by a fuckin' turkey.

Turkey got you on a technicality but it's still funny. Killed by a hideous looking non flying bird. Don't think it can get much worse than that lol.

There was a review I read today about picking up some specialist that uses a sniper on the western part of the map if I remember right. Apparently whoever it is can take out animals quicker than the actual player can. I remember shooting a deer last night and thinking 'ok, now its gotta drop after getting shot 4 times in the side'. Nope. Fucker out ran me and disappeared over a mountain before you could tie your shoe.

I'm pretty pumped on the game so far and I've only got about 4 hours in to it the last 2 nights. I only ever played Primal and now this one, and after getting rather bored with MES and All Out, this is a nice change. There's only a few games that have been able to catch my attention like this one to keep coming back. The only thing I struggle with is deciding if I should hit a compound all stealth mode, or just take out the towers and start blasting rockets at everything. Any idea if you get penalized for killing too many civilians? I took out about 5 or 6 last night on accident and nothings happened yet. Just a bright red message to not kill them. Curious if there's any kind of penalty outside of the missed points for rescuing them.

I personally enjoy watching streamers play games like this rather than playing it myself. I died laughing a few times watching the stream, but here's a short compilation video of JoshOG playing it.

Peely I saw your message in the All Out thread but decided to reply here instead.

I played a little FC5 last night. Finished liberating Dutch Island but not sure where I feel like going next. I know he recommended an area. I think it's the one on the West?

Fucking assault rifle is NOT any good for hunting. I think I emptied a clip on a moose and then some before the fucker fell. Same with a black bear.

Are you only able to carry one assault/shotgun/bow at a time in that weapon slot along with the handgun or do you unlock the capability of having a long gun with the bow plus the handgun? As of now I'm only carrying the assault rifle because I think it's the most useful when shit goes down. I don't want to just carry a bow or a shotgun. Different situations call for different approaches.

Haven't ran into a turkey yet but kicked a skunk though lol.

i spent perk points on carrying additional weapons right away, now i'm loaded with 2 rifles and a shotgun. only having one rifle/bow and a pistol is not optimal. also, spend money on silencers as soon as you can.

i'm quite a ways in now and i saved up a ton of money and bought the .50 cal sniper rifle from the featured guns categor and threw a silencer, scope, and magazine on it. i'm 2 shot kills for bears, everything else is one shot kill. at the earlier level of the game, the animals are hard core and tough to kill. now it's more realistic.

what i do is save up around 20 perk points before going in to spend them, that way i can decide what i want from a full list of perks.

another tip is the first sniper rifle in the sniper category works great as an assault rifle. you can set it up to do 3-round burst or full auto. it's MUCH better than the standard assault rifle in the rifle category. i just barely figured that out.

Still haven't cleared one area yet, I've been spending too much time on stupid side missions and prepper stashes.
A good gun to pick up once you kill someone that has it is the first LMG you can see when you're at a store. That thing takes out pretty much anyone fairly easy, even the dudes in full armor. You can get armor piercing bullets for it that work wonders on airplanes too. Once your rep gets high enough the planes come out like crazy.
Like Peelout, I spent my first round of perk points on 150% health and the extra weapon slot. I mainly carry the LMG and a scoped rifle of some sort, and a revolver as my sidearm(seems to work better than the pistol). Not a fan of the shotguns or bow personally.

Are any of you guys having a hard time finding silver? The first time I found some it said there's more at every outpost, but I've cleared 4 outposts since and have only found one to have silver. I wanna get one of those stupid fancy guns even if it doesn't have better performance.

do it man, it's the most fun i've had gaming in a LONG time.

a lot of reviews harp on it because there's no break in the action... i fail to see how that's a bad thing.

just last night i got done mowing down a big group of cultists just off a main road, they just kept coming and getting more aggressive. then here comes a helicopter so i take it down. i turn to leave and there's a friendly NPC with an icon over his head (usually means he has a mission or info) so i go talk to him and mid sentence he gets mauled to death by a bear. so i back up and kill it then turn back around and right back into a firefight. lol, it's intense but so much fun.

i just can't get enough of it, and the lady likes watching me play it because "Montana is beautiful, it's like a movie"

Looks like you caught the Far Cry bug lol.

FYI you can also open the safes by blowing them up with small explosives or use the torch.

I still haven't liberated an entire area yet but do the main and side mission start paying more the further you get in the game? Takes forever to make money. I loot practically everyone I kill, stash/cache houses, safes, etc. but it's still not enough to buy a bunch of stuff and upgrades. Is there a way to make quick cash. Hunting and fishing doesn't really cut it.

Did you do the increase bounty price perk?
