I tried the Rocky Mountain Altitude Powerplay C70 just around the parking lot, I was blown away by it. If I didn’t ride mainly for fitness I’d probably own one.

Might be nice for a vet guy like me and make the Hill climbs as fun as the downhills

Are real mountain bikers going to accept these? Or will it be a market like owning a collection of bikes and the ebike is for certain rides in addition to your regular XC or downhill bike?

There's another thread here about e-bikes. They're the quads of the cycling world. Seriously.

Haha, that’s a good comparison. I’ll look up that thread

I think this technology really allows a larger number of people of various skill sets to ride together more frequently.

I rented a Scott for day. This ebike was very heavy but with assist on pedalling felt good.

Ive started to see them on the local trails. Haven't ridden one but I'd like to. I think they're cool, if it gets more people into MTB then whatever. The cycling "purists" are up in arms over them, though. In their eyes its a dirtbike and dirtbikes are bad and cannot be ridden on the same trails as "true cyclists".

So if you need training wheels to be able to participate in a sport, whatever.

They are not the quads of the cycling world unless you are an avid MTB'r who rides 2x per week....and even then, they'll allow an avid MTB'er to go twice as far as your normal rides.

Pedal assist e-bikes are amazing tools for guys who get older, have responsibilities, fall out of shape, and cannot ride more than 1-2x per month. The e-bikes allow you to enjoy the same rides you used to when you were in better shape, and you can still have fun riding without vomiting on the trail from exhaustion.

There's a huge market for them. Pretty much any guy 30-50yrs old who has a hectic lifestyle and not enough time to stay in riding shape anymore.

I'm the one that started the other thread about eMtn Bikes. Going to take one out again this week too, i think they're a blast. They allow me to do everything I look for in a bike ride

- gets me outdoors
- good workout - i had a 185 max HR on a few of the hills I did last time
- ability to climb hills/trails i wouldn't be able to on a conventional bike
- see lots of new scenery since i can cover more distance
- i have a damn good time doing it

There was an article in my local paper this week about them, the local federal areas (Malibu Creek State Park) bans them while locally regulated open space areas allow them. The debate and conversation on them seems to be getting more attention. Will be interesting to see how it plays out

All I know is that I got blown the F away up a big climb recently by a guy on one. Now I understand why the MTB purists are so butt hurt about them.
Pedal assist bikes are not the quads of the cycling world, they are the "unfair advantage" 4-strokes.

Just go running on a Segway instead...same thing. And yes, they are the quads of cycling in every conceivable way. No self-respecting cyclist would ever be caught dead riding one, just like no self-respecting motocrosser would be caught dead riding a quad.

I agree with others on here that it would be fun for a vet guy.

What if you take a long ride and the battery goes? The bike might be a tank to pedal back without the assist.

Guys that feel threatened by these things likely have deeper seeded issues, unless it’s a legitimate trail access issue I just don’t get it.

I ride almost daily but I typically only do 7-10 miles, with about 1000-1500ft of climbing. If I had an e-bike I’d get the same workout but probably cover twice the distance. Sounds like it would just increase my fun. Why would that be a bad thing?

Ive been riding MTN bikes since they were invented. In the last few years the chondromalacia in my knees has ruined everything, and surgery wont fix it, until total knee replacements, which docs wont do at 48 usually. An E bike could be my ticket back into the woods, (if they're not banned everywhere). Id much rather have all my cartilage and pedal like i used to, but I get 20 minutes into a ride and the knees feel like broken glass behind the kneecap.

This bike might be a great solution for you to keep enjoying the sport.

So obviously DocJD is down for ebike = quad (funny comparison I admit) but I would agree with ebike = 4 stroke advantage.

Definately a polarizing topic. They are not cheap that's for sure.

I'm sorry, I don't get it.
To me it's like bench pressing 300 lbs with assist to make it a 5 lb equivalent.

Do you ever use shuttles or lifts at bike parks?

It's fun!
