Knowing that most of you have traveled a ton with moto and business.. I am moving a friend from Michigan to Southern California in a month and we will be driving back together.. Any suggestions for the fastest and safest route? Obviously I have looked at a map but was wondering if you had any suggestions or tips..

Thanks!

Kind of depends where in California you want to end up. It's a big state.

Regardless of your route, take your time and enjoy the trip. Go through Vegas into Utah and stop to see some of the national parks there. They have some of the best in the country. Then Go through the rockies on some smaller roads, it is an amazing drive.

Friends don't ask friends to help them move!

Have a safe trip anyway.

Avoid motels that have a number in their name!

I got your sarcasm, sorry I was looking for help with the trip and not smart-alec remarks hahah Grinning ... And by friend I mean girlfriend of a year who still has to move the rest of her stuff out of her parent's house that has been sitting in Michigan for a year or so.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will try to enjoy the trip the best I can.

I always tell my wife that I consider 'camping' to be anything up to and including staying in a motel with a number in its name.

I have seen enough black light exams to know that I am better off sleeping in the car! Shocked Thanks for the advice. I will post pictures from the trip. Who woulda thought you would only have to jump over to non-moto to avoid most of the assclowns on this forum! har!

If it was me I would stay up towards the north as much as possible to see the areas that are difficult to pass in the winter.

I am born and raised San Diegan too and lived in MI for a few years. In East Lansing to be exact, while going to school for a couple of years. My first wife was a Michigander. I've done some of the routes, but not the Interstate 90 or 94.

If you have a decent car, do yourself a favor and take the 70 to the 15. Stop off to see Zion and drive the Rockies in the daylight.

The pass over the Rockies hits like 11,000 feet and it is a steep mother, but the cool thing is that you get to coast all the way to the 15 once over the hill.

The 80 76 70 way is OK too. But it is a LONG uphill out of Nebraska to Denver and then the Rockies.

The 40 44 70 69 is going to be boiling hot the whole way, the most laden with truckers, but is also the shortest and fastest.

I loved our WRX, my son also had an Evo 9(?) which was really fun also. I put a strut brace on the front end and a short throw shifter on the column and the WRX was dramatically more fun to drive.

I'm on my second WRX.. Good mileage, lots of fun to drive, and I lived in Mammoth for a year and was able to drive to the mountain everyday even on the craziest of snow days. Great little car for under 25k.
