Well this sucks major ass. I have Direct TV. I have the 35.99 mo/pakage. I pay an additional 2.99 ea for CBS,NBC,ABC and FOX. And I pay an additional 10.00/mo for a "sports package that includes Speed channel. Speed is the only reason I bought the sports package. Today I go to my Speed channel and I get the error message "to view you need to call and ask for ext 721. Im like WTF is this shit? I figure they just made a mistake. I call and Im told that I dont get "Speed" I tell the guy that yes I do and have for the past few years and Ive been paying monthly for it. Then I ask him if they have removed it from the sports package and if so when. He does some checking and says " I cant find out when it was pulled but if you want Speed channel you will need to upgrade from your 35.99/mo to a 59.00/mo package. Yeah no shit. Well Im not willing to spend $276 EXTRA a year to watch racing. It sux but hey thats life. At anyrate if any of you have the same 35.99/mo package I do and you plan on watching World Superbike tomorrow youd better check and see that your still hooked up. I bet there are gonna be some unhappy Bubbas out there when they go to watch Nascar and find out theyve been cut off. $23 extra a month will really cut into the Budweiser fund.

Guess you're not bragging now about making 3K a year!

Just kidding...that sucks. Cable and all satellite providers are the new DMV.

I haven't had cable for over 4 years and rarely miss it. Not a big TV guy. If there is a big race or fight, I'll go to a friends place to watch their tv and eat their food.

It's a sacrifice, but this option would save you ~$588 per year.

I'd call and tell them you want to cancel altogether. They'll ask why and if there's anything they can do. Then I'd tell them I'm switching to cable because it costs too much to get the speed channel now.

At that point they may cut a deal and offer you a discounted rate.

If they don't and proceed to go through with the cancellation, just hang up or say "Nevermind. I think I'll keep it afterall." (Assuming you do want to keep it.)

And also, the package is $23 a month more...but you'd be able to save $10 a month by dropping the sports package, right?

And I'd probably drop CBS too, while I'm at it!

Yeah there are a few downsides to poverty Wink This being one of them, dial up being another and HOT women yet another.

Thanks for the ideas guys and thanks for letting me vent.

I went back to cable because I would lose Direct a few times a month due to weather and now I do not get speed, it sucks.

didn't you just post a couple weeks ago, about seeing an old gas receipt from the glove compartment of your porsche?

tell me again how 200 extra bucks a year is going to hurt, and I have a solution for you.

Yes I posted something about what I paid for a gallon of gas a year ago. But you lost me on the 200 bucks a year. I dont remember what I said. Refresh my memory. Hell I dont remember what I had for breakfast.

I think what pisses me off the most about Direct TV is that they just plain shut off the station without any notice. If I'd known ahead of time Id have cancelled my $10/mo sports package as I pretty much only have it for Speed Channel.

Not sure but I first noticed it on the 19th. I think Speed nows comes standard if you have the $59/mo package what ever they call it. I have the entry level and then bought a "sports package" that included Speed. I may just have to bite the bullet but it pisses me off.

my point is, if you have a porsche sitting in your driveway, I don't understand why you are concerned about an extra $276 a year.

I'll buy your car for $300

I think were at 30 bucks a month and get Speed Channel. Maybe 35, for the local programming? Not real sure, but I just downgraded and still get it. Dish Network, oh and the Sirius radio music channels.

I live 11 miles from town out behind Lake Skinner. And yes its becoming wall to wall housing tracts in town. I moved here 20 years ago and then there were 12k people in town. Now weve got 100k in Temecula and I think the same number next door in Murrieta. I live .6 miles from the nearest asphalt. 8 miles from the nearest sidewalk. 8 miles from the nearest streetlight. 10 miles to the nearest gas station (thats becoming a problem) And 10 miles from the nearest lap dance. I have a neighbor a few hundred feet away and I feel like I'm being enroached upon. Seriously Im hating it. Ive got 3 acres and most neighbors have from 3 - 20 acres. So by city standards we have space. We have our own wells, and use propane. Cable would be nice. So I guess its not really country by some standards but by so/cal standards it sorta is. I had a bobcat on my back porch recently, a coyote in my compost pile, and a rattlesnake at my front door. Woke up one night with a trantula in my bed. Heres a pic of my back yard:
