Last Friday I bought steaks and cooked 1. Put the other in the fridge. Figured I'd make it for dinner tonight but uhhh. It looks funny and smells a bit. Was a week too long in the fridge? $15 steak right here Sad

Yup.
Dammit Sad what's the longest a steak can sit for? Can I burn the shit out of it so I don't get sick? I don't wanna throw $15 away, even if I gotta give it to the dog.

Is $15 really worth a solid night roostering?

I tend to only keep steak a day or two in the fridge but I think you can go up to four or five.

Idk. I just really wanted my damn steak. Now it's looking like scrambled eggs for dinner and $15 in the trash.
I might cook it and try it anyways. Done covered it in honey and olive oil. Enough honey will make anything taste good Grinning

It won't look as bad or smell as funny after you grill it. Oh, as far as being safe for a dog. All I can say as I have seen dogs chew on dead animals that have been sitting out in the hot sun for a week with maggots crawling through them and it never seemed to harm them.

You must be borderline vegan to look at a steak in the fridge for that long and not eat it.

Hell, I've seen browner looking pieces of meat in the grocers cooler before! Spray it with red food coloring like they do.Laughing

Proper aging of a steak is the only way to go. The meat breaks down over time and gawd it's good and tender. I always pick the cuts that look a few days old from the counter.

Bro, aged meat. You’re good. One of the best steaks I’ve had was one that had been sitting for a moment or two.

Have you ever eaten at a fancy restaurant that claimed they cut their steaks fresh daily? Some proclaim they age their steaks for 30 days.Eat that steak!! I wouldnt be a bit surprised if you start to age your steaks for a few days from now on.

Bit of a difference in how they age their steaks... not so much just leaving it in the fridge.

I've ate steak much more brown than that. You're good to go granted you don't prefer it be very rare.

Speaking of aged beef, that was one of the things on my to do list before things went sideways here at home. Hoping my fridge and freezer will still actually work and can be unstunk enough to go in the garage for my dry aged experiments. Future thread possibly.

As far as not having made it earlier, I meant to make it last sunday but didn't for idk what reason. And mon through thur I work 10+ hour days plus school and the gym and just daily shit. So I don't cook much during the week Sad

Bring it back, grab another. I've left steaks out too long before because life happens and the grocery store I go to hasn't had a problem.

They do that? I worked at kroger for 3.5 years and can't say anyone ever returned a steak. Stolen shit from Walmart yeah, but not meat.
Anyways it's on the grill right now. Getting cooked well done lol if I die I die. If I live we'll all know it's OK to let a steak get to looking a bit glazed over in the fridge
