The character and resolve of those brave men is beyond my comprehension. Lying about their age to enlist before finishing high school, riding in those boats knowing that most of the fellas, including yourself, wont be alive in the next 10 minutes when the gate dropped on the beach. I dont care what anyone says, those fellas were the Greatest Generation.

Im grateful for their ultimate sacrifice.

Watched a piece on the news last week of a 93 yr old airborne paratrooper that went in before we hit the beach.

He is going to jump today into the same field, hope they report on it.

I really hate to see our worthless president over there showing his muslum face, for him to even step on such hollowed ground with the utter disrespect he has for our troops and my country makes me ill.

I didnt think it would take long for one you to bring Obama up. Why don't you go and jizz over him in another thread? This is about remembrance of the thousands who lost their lives.

You said it sir. That was some brutal stuff.

All those kids lying about their age, that's the reason my name is spelled like it is. My dad changed it and his d.o.b. to be able to join the merchant marines at age 15. While not in the military, during WW2 the merchant marines were used to transport many things for the war effort. Lots of merchant ships were lost. Half his shipmates were lost when LT221 pulling a barge with a Sherman tank on it struck a mine in the Cagliari Gulf off the coast of Sardinia. The Sherman is on the bottom along with a stash of guns he had managed to pick up that would have been mine.

Truly a war that was worth the fight on moral grounds alone. An extraordinary generation.

Netflix has a bunch of really good WWII documentaries up that I have been watching.
Really an unbelievable undertaking to get that whole plan to happen and some amazingly brave soldiers.

My father in law told me a story 6-7 weeks ago. He never spoke of WWll prior to this. His health was failing & it was an amazing 25 minute insight of his days in France.

His company was slated to be the 2nd in line on 6/6. For some reason, they were pushed back 7 days. When they landed, they gathered up the bodies on the beach for transport. He spoke of his time in France moving from city to city, amazing. I wish I had a tape recorder. He was talking like it happened yesterday.

I visited him at the hospice today. He probably won't make it thru the weekend. Godspeed Jim Swartz.

Thank you for your service.

Thank you to all the Vets out there.
