My childhood heroes. When I was 8 I had a He-Man tape recorder zip tied to my handle bars on my Z-50 playing that album.

I don't want to rant but this is such a great thread.
There are certain musicians or groups that are not good prospects to cover. Try covering Yes. Not so easy. Primus? Close to impossible. What I mean is, what does the cover really add? There are great songs that can be covered because the basic song and melody lends itself to variations which can be really good. Heard it Through the Grapevine is an all time classic Marvin Gaye song. But, Credence Clearwater did a great cover. Those are rare. Most covers in this thread don't live up except the ones that have a lot of time between the original and the cover. SRV is the only one that could really cover Hendrix and some of that was due to better equipment and recording technology. Plus he was an OK guitar player.

95% of all the covers I have ever heard are nothing but filler for albums.
Do we even have albums any more?

So many good ones. Here are just a few:

This one makes me want to go hit my hand with a hammer, for all it's worth by comparison:

One of my favorite musician/producer/songwriters:

And with his other band. If you didn't like this song already, maybe a rockier version will suit your taste:

FInally, this beautiful gem from Red House Painters. RIP, Ric Ocasek:

Bonamassa in his youth used to work a little Yes into his live show. Never recorded it though.

Just having some fun with it....
