how this is worth $104 million?

Unbelievable what people will pay for something because it is called "art".

It's worth it because someone is willing to pay that for it

It's like baseball cards...who gives a shit what the book says, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it

That is one of the most well known pieces of modern sculpture.

Created in the early 60's European postwar existentialist period and one of only 6 pieces ever cast in that style by the artist Giacometti.

Word.
Doesn't mean it's rational. But it is what it is. Kind of a free market phenomenon.

Art is also usually a good investment, that thing will sell for 150 in five years, many of these high end pieces are bought as investments. If I could make 46 mill in five years without doing much, I´d do it too.

Does the term more money than brains come to mind?

You're also assuming that $104MM is a lot of money to the buyer

Goddammit! This always happens. I buy something then I see it somewhere for a lower price!

I got that at Sam's the other day for 120 mil. Now, I'm gonna have to take it back and go get it somewhere else. Where do you get that for 104?

Thats a Beautiful piece. I find myself moved just viewing it. You can easily see how tormented the artist is. Look at the way the cycle is squating under torque. That is representative of how the artist feels due to the pressure of working for the Man and the angst he feels working in the cooporate world just so he can afford rent food and art supplies. The Taco'd rear wheel tells me that the artist is emotionally damaged. You can tell by the sharp lines of the pencil strokes how angry the artist is. And the way the body is presented in a disjointed fashion tells me this artist is likely on the verge of suicide. In a few years this piece will likely be worth a few mil.
