Any of you guys into classic cars?

My dad turns 70 on Monday, so my sister and I bought him a 1966 Mustang Convertible. It's supposed to be delivered Saturday. With the fall coming on, I am so looking forward to taking some day trips with him in it. He has no idea we got it, and hasn't really even mentioned wanting one...so it's a bit of a gamble, but I think he'll love it.

I always wanted to get my dad a Fury for a retirement gift ,it was his first car . I have a feeling the timing now is going to be bad between the new baby coming and when he retires .

I was interested in if any other guys on here have classics that they drive? Do you go on trips alone, or with groups? While this car is totally redone, it's 50 years old....so I'm sure stuff will go out. One good thing I read about them is that Mustang parts are really easy to get a hold of...

My dad says this is the only classic car he ever wants... 1974 Dodge Monaco

This car's got a lot of pickup... It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It was a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas...

I would say the best thing you can do is switch to an electronic ignition .

My friend works here, in Vegas, and says you can build a complete (brand new) vintage mustang from parts in his warehouse. If you need parts, check it out. They also manufacture parts for Shelby.
Thanks. Yeah, there are tons of parts everywhere.

And it's his 70th birthday. He's done so much for us, it was an easy decision. I can envision keeping it after he's gone and passing it down to my son.

Are you a fan of white? My buddy and I spent many nights on this one. The original owner was rick Martin from the buffalo sabres and really uglied the thing up,it was flat black with button tuck interior ,it had about 30 toggle switches all over the inside of the car. The engine isn't numbers matching but it is a 455 with a Muncie 4 speed.

That's pretty cool of you, can't imagine he won't like it, considering its a gift from his kids. Should be a blast, touring around with him.

This is what I have at home, if I can ever get around to finishing it. A little tough, when that's 2000 miles away. Someday. 500 horse, 440 stick car. Oooo RAH.

Huck, that is a nice car and an even nicer thought. No way can an old guy dislike that little gem.

I love the old classics but in my line of work, the last thing I want to do is go home and work on another car...lol. I have quite a few customers that I help out with little things on the classics from time to time but it is extremely difficult to try to do any restoration work next to a fast pace collision repair. Insurance companies are not time friendly these days and my small crew is always crunched for time.

I bought the wife a convertible when she turned 40, told her she got to buy me a Ferrari when I turned 50. Well, that just happened, the 50 not the Ferrari. Just don't think I want a troublesome and needy Italian at the moment. What I have been extremely giddy for is a nice 69 Camaro Pro-Touring style. Been looking at a few but damn they get expensive with all the modern drivetrain and suspension upgrades. But, if this fugger was Hugger Orange instead of red I would be on a plane today...

As a young heathen I had a couple 68 models, 70 1/2 and a 73. They were kinda on the cheap back then and I could survive without air conditioning. Not any more though! A really nice 69 has always been on my short list. Considering doing dual air in one if a deal pans out. Laughing

Yeah, well my line of work has nothing to do with cars, but the last thing I was to fuck with is working on an old car. lol I have family around the area that does a lot of resto-mods...so if this gives me trouble...it'll go in for some fuel injection.

I always wished I knew more about working on cars. If I did, I would have gotten one years ago to work on with my son. However, I don't want to give a mechanic an unsigned check... lol

I've got a few, 65 comet cyclone, 68 tbird, 3 64 fairlanes I hope to build a thunderbolt with one day. I have a 427 sideoiler with the highriser heads and some other goodies for it.

I collected 68- 71 Lincoln mk3 to get the 460s out of ,they were high compression with 425 hp easy. ,put one in the tbird one in a 78 f100, The truck rips.

Anything after 72 is open chamber low compression with air pumps and converter to burn the unburnt fuel from the lower compression, it was a way to lower hp with the same engine design.

Have lots of engines from that 65 to 70 era,

351 Clevelands, boss 302 with a classic Roush 2 4 barrel intake from his dragracing days.

A 65 mustang that i street raced in high school, has a 289 ho with the ford tri power intake. It is rusted out heap now. Used a dog chain to latch the door handles together because the body would triwst so bad on lauch the doors would pop open sometimes.

All my stuff is ford,

Bunch of 9 inch traction locks, c4 and c6 trannys, top loaders, 5 bolt bellhousings.

I'm the white fred sanford of my neighborhood.

Nice grab!

My dad is actively looking for a 64 or 67 GTO (only those years and original motors) if anyone knows of any!

My favorites are the later muscle cars, 70 Challenger TA KissingKissingKissing

When I got married my wife came with a 64 1/2 Mustang Convertible (typical red). It looked perfect on the outside and on the inside but had some frame issues. We sold it for not a lot shortly after (~1986). Could probably have gotten a LOT more out of it today. Smile

Sunday. His birthday is Monday, but we are having a dinner for him Sunday since my nephews will be in town. I'm going to show up a little late (driving the car). We won't say anything until after dinner and come out of the restaurant and it'll be there with a big red bow!!!!
