Terrible, but with a program title like that... not unexpected.

R.I.P Lots of poor health practices in the commercial fishing industry, chain smoking, tons of coffee, and alcohol

3 packs of Winstons and a 12 pack of Red Bull a day will lead you to the great crab pot in the sky every time.

the man lived a fearless life. I remember a few years ago he almost died from a pulmonary embolus. Carpe diem.

Sad to hear. To one Captain to another. Godspeed to Davey Jones locker where the sea is always with and not against.

Lots of speed up there too. I lost a friend that moved up there to meth.

RIP Captain.

Heard this this morning, really sad. Last season it seemed like he may be starting to pay better attention to his health. Guess it was too little or too late... or both.

majority of those guys live the unhealthy life, and look 20 years older than they really are.

They were
A crew was there and they were filming, it was Opelio (sp?) season
I am also curious how they will handle it, especially with the boys, the crew and the fleet....

Be a ratings giant....no offense

Easy and dramatic to handle on the show since he didn't die at the scene. Have all the ruckuc and drama of ambulances and so on. Leave a cliffhanger. Then next week maybe some hospital stuff, and a sober memorial-type thing, tribute to the man.

Opelio is pretty much snow crabs rights? Like the buffet style crabs?

I remember last year he passed a blood clot from his leg through his heart and he recovered.

Sad news indeed, he was a well liked and respected guy.

He lived up around me somewhere! My youngest son is a courtesy Clerc at our local Safeway store and bagged his groceries about a month ago! He was one of my favorites on the show! RIP Captain PhilSad

RIP Captain Phil

The sea is a hard life and it takes some even when they aren't on the water.

They have already said he would be in next season, but they do not know how they would end it regarding him. And they were in port when it happened so it's not like they caught the stroke on film...
