VW Space Fox getting refueled in Rio




"THIS is the shocking moment a car explodes as it's being filled up at a petrol station in Rio de Janeiro killing one woman and injuring three others.The horrific tragedy, captured on security cameras, shows the driver of the vehicle standing beside his silver VW SpaceFox as the car fills up with CNG gas on Saturday night around 9.30pm...

Jorge Siqueira de Souza, 45, appears to be chatting to the woman in the passenger seat, identified as Erica de Lima Thiengo Siqueira, 27, when the car erupts.She died instantly in the ferocious blast in the Sao Goncalo neighbourhood...

He suffered serious injuries and is in intensive care at the Alberto Torres State Hospital, in the same neighbourhood.
Two others caught up in the blast were released after receiving medical attention for minor injuries."

Damn, looks like the tank failed. That's what 3600 psi will do, assuming Brazil has the same PSI filling standard as the USA.

Google is saying VW had a recall on the tanks for some of their CNG vehicles. I wonder what pressure those tanks are filled to. Either way, even low pressures like a shop compressor will be messy if it fails catastrophically like that.
