structure failure during storm,
at least 22 dead they are reporting here, and saying since it was a public holiday there was less traffic,

Thats crazy how bad has your luck got to be to one of the unfortunate ones to be on the bridge at the time.

Wow , that is nuts. 22 people is a lot less then I figured there would / could of been. Wonder if it was an old bridge , or possibly a newer one that was just engineered wrong?

Good thing it was a holiday as mentioned by scott_nz. Imagine if that had happened during work week rush hour.

The guy in the van that got lucky is probably thinking no more bridges for me. I would of gotten out, ran the other direction until I was on solid ground. Fuck that shit.

Unfortunately, it's gone up to 39. Still incredible more didn't get caught up in it.

According to the story posted above this was apparently the 5th bridge collapse in Italy in 5 years.

Look at all the black tarps/fabric that have been tacked in place. Some kind of patch material to retain falling bits of cement??? Looks like that one has been crumbling for quite some time.

According to reports the bridge was being retrofitted at the time although still open.
