I got my Trek EX8 last fall. Any training is better than nothing. I think mtb would help with some line choice more for off road than mx and it has the fun factor. If I was serious about cardio, I would pick riding on the street first.

You should ditch those platforms and go clipless. Ha.

Why do you say street first for cardio? My heart rate stays super high the entire time I'm riding mtn bike. Although I can't go as far or as fast as on the road but I thought that was given.

The season is getting ready to start back up here. I've been building a pump track in my back yard to help me and my kids get a little better too.

I do have clip less on my street bike. When riding with the guys on the mtb seemed like I was always clipping and unclipping.

For me if I go out for a three hour ride I get more pedaling in on the street. Not that mtbing with younger guys doesn't ware me out.

I was just giving you crap. Sometimes people go overboard on insisting that there is a wrong or right way to mtn bike. Clipless vs. platforms. 26 vs 29. Hard tail vs. full suspended. And so on. I learn by trying things. What works for some doesn't work for others.

I actually don't unclip too much and it works out better for me. There have been a few big "oh shit" moments where I wish I could have gotten my foot out but it hasn't been bad enough to make me want to switch back.

my ride, i've noticed my mountain-biking has helped my off-road riding line selection. i'm finding technical climbs and downhill sections to be much easier on my dirt-bike than they were before i rode a lot.

that said, i ride my mtb every day

i want to build a park bike, one of the big areas by my house has turned into a pretty bitchin' mtb jump park and my large frame 29er is just a little too big to be taking to the park

Haha, I have 2 sets in case I want to clip it, I run flats a lot because I'm an ex dh racer/trick rider and I still like to jump and do some tricks. We are opposite, I'm looking to build a more straight up xc/trail bike and I might end up with a 29er though I'd prefer another 27.5. Your bike is rad as well!

Love your intense. I've had mine for a while now and it's my second one. My next one will probably be an intense, too

Thanks dude, I might pick up a Spider275 as well or a Turner Czar, not sure yet. I like the dw-link better but broke a Turner Burner really quickly and was bummed.

i run flats on my street cruiser and on the super technical mtn trails around here, other than that i'm always clipped in. your pedal looks super thin but long, it must just be a shadow lol

my 29er is a fucking mountain-goat. if my legs will allow me to pedal, that thing will do it. not only that but it's very fast on more XC style trails. i've been wanting to try a 27.5 or 650b, but for my height the 29er is a perfect fit.

I want a 27.5er but I can't justify spending about $5k on a bicycle anymore. (And anything much less expensive nowadays wouldn't be quite what I want.)
I am definitely going to spend money on some platform pedals though. I ate shiz the other day because I couldn't get out of my pedals when I had to dab my foot (I have old-school cage pedals). I don't care if I lose a little power - I don't really pull up when I pedal anyway. Here's my old warhorse:

Yes them, there are about 250 pages on http://forums.mtbr.com
I can't find the exact link right now.

They cost about $210 a hoop direct from China or on Ebay.

I sold my f/s Giant a few years back, just wasn't using enough
- And picked me up a redline MX 24 cruiser to change things up

I just picked up this Specialized hard-tail from my neighbor for a smokn' deal
- because I couldn't keep up w/ my 5 y/o daughter anymore on my cruiser Smile

Ya, I prefer 27.5 since I'm 5'8 and I like the more nimble/jumpy feel. For me, they have a feel closer to traditional 26" than 29".

BUT, while trail riding I've had several instances where I'm trying to pump or pedal through flat sections and my buddies on 29" are just coasting through almost pulling away from me. I think 29" are a no brainer for xc racing but would rather not jump much/play ride on them.

Got this one from my dad a few months ago i's been pretty fun. Rode about 700 km on it so far it's a pleasant experience.
The tires are like a hybrid of road / dirt though i haven't really gone offroad with it, kinda considering looking for different tires not sure yet. I have next to no knowledge about MTB's. Atleast it rides extremely nice on roads at the moment!

Side note; you can see a piece of a custom made KTM bmx to the left Sideways
