Yes I'm aware I could look all this up on the internet, but what fun is that? Interaction with my Aussie mates is much more fun! These are all things I wonder about. More to follow, but let's start with these.

How many time zones are in Australia? Here in the US it's later on the East coast than the West coast. Is it the same down under or opposite?

Is there a consensus favorite beer there? What's the consistent best seller?

Does water really swirl in the opposite direction when draining?

All the Aussies must be asleep.
its 620am here, and we are 2 hours ahead of the east coat of Australia so yes, they will be asleep,
as a neighbour, I will try to answer a few questions,

yes the sun rises in the east, and sets in the west, like it does everywhere on the globe, but it is winter down this hemisphere at the moment,

they have 3 time zones, although some states have different day light savings hours so sometimes there is 4,

beer is a very state based thing, i would almost think VB would be most popular, Fosters is hardly drank anywhere in australia, but popular as an aussie beer overseas,

yes the water goes the other way,

and the Australian Wallibies Rugby Team has a chance to lift the Bledisloe cup in rugby off the New Zealand All Blacks for the first time in 16 years this weekend in Auckland, after smashing the All Blacks in game 1 in Perth last week,

We eat kangaroo meat.
It’s sold in most supermarkets, but not as much as beef, lamb, pork etc

If I had to guess I would say it’s a little less than 10% of meat sales, but that’s a total guess.
Kangaroos are really abundant so we should probably consume more.
It tastes good, it’s really lean, so a little hard to cook, it over cooks quickly and gets really tough, so should be medium rare.

Roo’s really are that tough especially the big reds, however they are not aggressive, they will always choose to hop away, but will fuck someone up if they are cornered.
Because of there inclination to flee, they don’t ever really hurt humans, but they do kill quite a few dogs who chase them.

And I am from Victoria, the land of VB. I agree it tastes like cats piss.

Every state generally has their local beer.
But in my opinion our big domestic beers are pretty ordinary at best.
Beer wise the best thing that happened to us was the craft beer trend. Most good pubs have 1 or 2 big domestic beers (like VB, XXXX, Carlton) on tap, a couple of international beers and a couple of craft beers.

Sports are a big part of our culture but we are a bit odd. AFL (Aussie rules football) is the biggest sport by a quite a way, it’s an odd game that only we really play, look it up on YouTube. It’s especially big in the southern states. Apart from that our sports are heavily influenced by our English heritage, we play AFL and rugby in the winter and cricket in the summer.
Soccer is also slowly gaining popularity, but it’s still quite a way behind the other sports.

The only decent mainstream local beer is Coopers. Particularly the Sparkling Ale. It is South Australia’s local brew. All the others are watered down cats piss. Some craft beers are ok.

This is becoming as good as I'd hoped. Thanks all. How many Aussie's know there's an entire restaurant chain that plays off y'all? Yep, it's called "Outback Steakhouse." It's good eating, but I don't think for a minute it's got anything to do with authentic Aussie food. In Jacksonville there is an Aussie restaurant run by Aussies. You get a burger there and it's gonna have a thick slice of beet root and an egg on it. Good stuff, and one of the few places you can get Coopers. I find it to be an excellent beer.

Hey Scott, thanks for responding. I find New Zealand beautiful and fascinating too. How do y'all feel about each other? I mean Aussies and New Zealanders? Brothers in arms? Brothers that hate each other until someone outside tries to come between you - like our Navy and Marine Corps used to be?

Never experienced heat like Brisbane in mid-summer, literally like having a hair dryer held 1mm from your face on full blast, It was worse than Tunisia, Kenya and Turkey in their summer combined. But I'm just a whinging pom so what do I know.

WA was my favourite part of Aus, overlooked by most but I really enjoyed my time there.

It's a beautiful country.

Barrettbro, I doubt we'll ever see eye to eye on a few things, but I love ya you cheeky bastard!

By the way, Barrettbro, sounds like where I grew up in the Mohave Desert. Same type of heat in that it feels like sticking your head in an oven that has a fan blowing the heat around.

All good, I am Australian, lived here most of my life, but lived in Germany for a couple of years, including when I set up this account.
I am now back in Aus.
I should update my profile

brothers that hate each other until someone else gets involved , is probably the best way to put it,

we share a pretty common heritage, and a close relationship, and a pretty similar way of life, we could have been part of Australia early on but didn't want to be, we share our military appreciation holiday Anzac day on the 25th of april, which is the day the ANZAC forces landed on the beaches of Gillipoli on what now is Turkey,

NZ being much smaller i think we probably care more about Aussie than they do about us, sort of like a little brother chip on our shoulder, and we like beating them in sport, and they seem to hate losing to us,

, we have professional teams in aussie professional competitions in Rugby League, Soccer, basketball and baseball, and our Rugby Union, Netball , Cricket and other national teams play each other a lot,

My father was a WW2 Pacific Navy officer. He told me the enlisted sailors and marines would give each other absolute hell until an "outsider" started in on one of them. Then he said the marine and sailor would be back to back striking at all comers.

Oh...left out the important part. Sounds like Aussies and Kiwis when backed into a corner. Speaking of that, are New Zealanders okay with being called "Kiwis"?
